Job summary

US Heart & Vascular seeks a Medical Assistant to support Memorial Cardiology Associates in Houston, TX. You will take vitals, enter medications in the EMR, and assist physicians during exams.

Responsibilities include performing EKGs, Holter setups, processing prescription refills by phone, and coordinating tests and referrals. Current BCLS and MA certification required; cardiology experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or Texas-accredited GED.
• 1 year of Medical Assistant experience or recent graduation with externship.
• Current Medical Assistant certification or within 90 days of hire.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Experience administering EKGs.
• Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.
• Fluent in English (read/write).

Responsibilities

• Take patient vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight).
• Verify and input medications into EMR; update medication list as needed.
• Perform EKG, rhythm strip, and printouts; ensure proficiency.
• Assist physicians with patient exams as needed.
• Support Holter monitor hookups/removals and event/Loop recorders.
• Assist with stress tests and interpret results.
• Handle prescription refill calls and review charts.
• Monitor pharmacy samples and remove expired ones.
• Answer calls and messages from patients/portal; manage EMR inbox.
• Maintain CPR and MA certifications.
• Demonstrate teamwork at all times; perform other duties as required.
• May handle insurance precertification and scheduling; may move between locations.

Responsibilities

• Takes patient vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.)
• Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list.
• Responsible for EKG, rhythm strip, and signal average EKG hook-ups and printouts. (Proficiency Required)
• Assist physicians with patient exams as needed.
• Responsible for Holter monitor hook-ups and removals, event recorders and Loop recorders. (Proficiency Required)
• Ability to perform stress tests as needed and to assist in test interpretation.
• Takes pharmacy phone calls, reviews charts, and calls in prescription refills.
• Monitors pharmacy samples, removing them from stock as expired.
• Receives and returns phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR.
• Maintains current CPR and Medical Assistant certification.
• Actively demonstrates teamwork at all times.
• Performs other duties as required.
• May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions.
• May be required to move between locations as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or Texas accredited GED
• 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, or recent graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program with completion of program externship.
• Current Medical Assistant certification or must obtain within 90 days of hire date.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Must have experience in administration of EKG’s.
• Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.
• Fluently speaks, reads, and writes English.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
