Job summary

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections seeks a Medical Assistant II to support the Health Services Unit's ambulatory care operations. Under supervision, you will help manage patient flow, assist clinicians, and perform delegated medical acts to support patient care outcomes.

Job description

Position Summary

Under supervision of the Health Services Manager (HSM) or Assistant Health Services Manager (AHSM), this position is responsible for clinic patient flow within the Health Services Unit (HSU) ambulatory settings and assisting Health Services staff by providing a broad range of health care services. This position functions as a member of the HSU care team which includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and clerical staff. Medical Assistants may provide patient care under the supervision of a physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse (RN) and perform delegated medical acts which must be directed, supervised and inspected by the supervising physician.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule/range 06-11 with a starting rate of pay of $23.04/hr., plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12 month probationary period is required.

A sign on bonus in the amount of $3,000 has been approved for the Medical Assistant 2 classification. Candidates with no prior State Service will be eligible for the bonus which is payable in two payments of $1,500 each. The first installment will be paid on the first paycheck following the date of hire; the second installment is payable after completion of the original probationary period.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications
