UMass Memorial Health in Worcester, MA seeks a Medical Assistant to join the Oncology Clinic, delivering patient care including vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and routine clinical procedures under supervision.

The candidate should have a High School Diploma, BLS/Heart Saver certification, and an MA DOH‑approved Medical Assistant credential within one year of hire. Strong organization and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current BLS/Heart Saver certification from the American Heart Association; if not available upon hire, must obtain within 3 months.
• Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health must be obtained within 1 year from date of hire/transfer.

Responsabilités

• Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and point-of-care tests according to clinic/office standards.
• May prepare, document, and administer non‑intravenous injections as directed or required by office/clinic; within scope of practice.

• Reviews laboratory results and ensures abnormal results are brought to physicians' attention.

Hiring Range: $20.60 - $32.82 (final offer may vary based on experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity considerations.)

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:45am-5:15pm (40 hours per week). Shift: Day Shift, 8 hours.

Cost Center: 10020 - 4088 Oncology Clinic

Union: SHARE (State Healthcare and Research Employees)

Major Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to examination rooms; records vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, etc.; collects, documents, and monitors patient health status and progress following standard procedures.
• Performs EKGs, phlebotomy, and point-of-care tests according to clinic/office standards.
• May prepare, document, and administer non‑intravenous injections as directed or required by office/clinic, within scope of practice.
• Assists in performing routine physical examinations or clinical procedures.
• Reviews laboratory results and ensures abnormal results are immediately brought to the attention of physicians and others, as appropriate.

Position Qualifications

License/Certification/Education (Required)

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Heart Saver (HS) certification from the American Heart Association. If not available upon hire, BLS/HS must be obtained within 3 months from date of hire; failure to obtain results in termination or transfer to another position.
• Medical Assistant credential approved by the Massachusetts Department of Health (ARMA, NHA, etc.) must be obtained within 1 year from date of hire/transfer; failure to obtain results in termination or transfer to another position. The Senior Vice President, Ambulatory Services may grant an extended grace period for employees with extenuating circumstances.

Unless certification, licensure, or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted.

Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions

The position requires work indoors in a patient care office or clinic environment. Hand dexterity, hearing, and vision are required to take direction from a patient or provider, adjust equipment, observe, and describe patient observations. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work is of medium demand, standing and walking most of the time with the possibility of pushing heavy equipment and bending frequently.
