Job summary

Harbor is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Perrysburg team! This full-time role focuses on patient care under medical leadership, with clinical and clerical duties and EMR use. A strong commitment to patient satisfaction is essential.

The ideal candidate completed an accredited Medical Assistant program and is CMA or RMA test eligible; BLS and CPI/NCI certifications within 90 days are required. Mental health experience and data-entry accuracy are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
  • Prior mental health experience preferred.
  • Must be CMA or RMA test eligible; CMA/RMA prior to employment preferred.
  • Proficient in data entry and Windows-based applications.
  • EMR experience preferred.
  • Excellent customer service and teamwork required.
  • BLS and CPI/NCI certifications required within 90 days.

Responsibilities

  • Assist providers with patient care and procedures.
  • Educate patients and families on care plans.
  • Assist patients with medication prescriptions and testing procedures as directed.
  • Triage patient calls and coordinate with front desk if needed.
  • Document accurately in the medical record per Harbor guidelines.
  • Maintain clean, organized clinical and clerical duties.

Job description

Harbor is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Perrysburg team! This position is responsible for patient care under the direction of medical leadership, and/or a licensed health care professional.

Position is full-time, 40 hours per week.

Education/Experience/Other Requirements
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program through an accredited college or university.
  • Previous experience in Mental Health preferred.
  • Must be CMA or RMA test eligible. CMA or RMA prior to employment preferred.
  • Must be able to perform clinical and clerical duties as needed.
  • Electronic Medical Records experience preferred.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a strong commitment towards achieving customer/patient satisfaction.
  • Must be proficient and accurate in data entry and be able to navigate through Microsoft Windows based applications.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of people and be a team player.
  • When applicable, non-licensed staff will be required to complete 20 hours of CEUs every 24 months.
  • BLS and NCI/CPI Certifications required within 90 days of employment.
Essential Job Competencies/Primary Duties
  • Assists provider with patient care.
  • Provides Patient/Family education.
  • Assist patients with medication prescriptions and testing procedures as directed by providers.
  • May assume responsibilities of determining and responding to the needs of patients and visitors when they contact the practice either by phone or in person.
  • May be required to fill in for front desk staff if needed.
  • Answers and/or triages patient phone calls.
  • Assists clinical staff and/or providers as needed.
  • Provides quality and timely support to both internal and external customers and strives for customer satisfaction.
  • Documents in a clear, efficient, and effective manner, in conjunction with leadership and Harbor guidelines.
  • Attends meetings as appropriate and serves on office committees as assigned.
  • Keeps current with trends and developments related to essential job competencies and demonstrates continued growth.
  • In providing billable services, fulfills or exceeds unit expectations established by Harbor.
  • May float to other locations to accommodate client or agency need.

Additional Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment services may include:

Documentation

  • Responsible for the quality and completeness of the clinical record.
  • Develops and updates Individualized Service Plan (ISP) for each client.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation which may include but is not limited to: activity/progress notes, ISPs, DPS logs, incident report forms and any other forms necessary to document services.

Provides Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment service activities:

  • Evaluation
  • Assesses client needs and formulates a strength-based ISP in conjunction with the client, family and/or significant others.
  • Evaluates and revises the ISP according to the client’s responses and needs.
  • Crisis prevention/intervention
  • Follows crisis prevention/intervention protocols.
  • Ongoing interventions
  • Provides support, education and consultation to clients, families, and/or significant others.
  • Provides therapeutic interventions as noted in the ISP to maintain the client in the least-restrictive environment and to enhance client and family functioning.
  • Monitors clients to identify and minimize effects of psychiatric symptoms.
  • Provides education on self-management of symptoms to client, families, and/or significant others.
  • Assists the client and family in increasing social support skills and networks.
  • Coordinates indicated evaluations and assessments by internal and/or external providers.
  • Coordinates and monitors all services identified in the ISP.
  • Provides assistance in gaining access to essential community resources.
