Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Southfield, MI is seeking a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory care services. The role involves greeting patients, collecting histories, recording vital signs, and assisting providers during exams and procedures.

The position requires completion of an MA program (externship or equivalent), MA certification or LPN/EMT credentials, and a current BLS-C certification. EPIC experience and strong communication are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of MA program with externship (160 hours) required.
  • Graduate MA with at least 1 year of clinical experience in the past 5 years.
  • Current MA certification with at least 1 year of clinical experience.
  • LPN license required.
  • Licensed Paramedic/EMT with at least 1 year of clinical experience in the past 5 years.
  • Military medical personnel with at least 1 year of clinical experience in the past 5 years.
  • Current BLS-C certification on hire or by end of orientation.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort patients to exam rooms.
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for examinations/procedures.
  • Assist providers during examinations/procedures.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under direct supervision of the provider and/or nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients. These duties may include but are not limited to the greeting and escorting of patients to the exam room, obtaining medical histories, the measurement and recording of vital signs, preparing patients for an examination/procedure, and assisting the provider during the examination/procedure.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • One of the following:
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hours minimum)
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with minimum one year of clinical medical assisting experience within the past five years
  • Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with minimum one year of clinical experience
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with minimum one year of clinical experience within the past five years
  • Military trained medical personnel with minimum one year of clinical experience within the past five years
  • Current BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation
Preferred
  • EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Clinical skills relevant to ambulatory patient care
