Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to serve as the vital link between patients and providers. You will perform a blend of administrative and clinical tasks to support patient care and outcomes in an ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, collecting histories, measuring vital signs, preparing for exams, and assisting clinicians. The ideal candidate has MA credentials, EPIC experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with clinical externship (160 hours) preferred.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program without externship, plus 1 year clinical experience acceptable.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification with 1 year clinical experience required.
  • LPNs are welcome to apply.
  • Military trained medical personnel with relevant clinical experience considered.
  • EMT/Paramedic experience is a plus.

  • Gather comprehensive medical histories to inform care decisions.
  • Measure and record vital signs accurately.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

As a Medical Assistant, you'll be the vital link between patients and providers, delivering compassionate care that makes a real difference. Working under the direction of the provider and nursing leadership, you'll master a dynamic blend of administrative and clinical responsibilities that directly impact patient outcomes and experience. From creating welcoming first impressions to supporting complex clinical procedures, you'll play an essential role in ensuring every patient receives quality, compassionate care.

Your day-to-day impact includes greeting and escorting patients with warmth and professionalism, gathering comprehensive medical histories that inform better care decisions, accurately measuring and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations and procedures with confidence and clarity, and providing hands-on clinical support to providers during patient interactions. You'll develop strong problem-solving skills, leverage your clinical expertise to anticipate patient needs, and communicate effectively with both patients and healthcare team members to create a seamless care experience.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • One of the following:
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum)
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program without clinical externship, plus minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years
  • Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with minimum one year of clinical medical assisting experience
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years
  • Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in a clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care
  • Problem-solving abilities
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
  • Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation
