Job summary

Maricopa County seeks a skilled Medical Assistant to join the Correctional Health team. You will provide front and back-office support, perform venipuncture, phlebotomy, EKGs, and vital checks within a jail healthcare setting.

You will document in the EHR, coordinate with external providers, and assist with scheduling, chart preparation, and patient communication while upholding strict confidentiality.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a medical assistant with front and back-office duties.
• Experience with venipuncture, EHRs, phlebotomy, vitals, and EKGs.
• Medical Assistant certificate and RMA certification required.
• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties within the medical assistant scope under supervision to ensure quality care.
• Complete required documentation in the EHR and other modalities.
• Verify health information with outside providers and maintain confidentiality.
• Handle office duties: copying, filing, scanning, scheduling, and prep.
• Respond to clinical calls in person, by phone, and online in a professional manner.
• Maintain patient data privacy across communications.

Pay Range $19.00 - $29.25 hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification.

This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

Check out our shift differential pay in addition to our base wage:

• An additional $1.25 per hour for hours worked between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
• An additional $2.00 per hour for hours worked between 11:00pm - 7:00am

We Require

• One year of experience as a medical assistant, performing front and back-office Medical Assistant duties, including experience with venipuncture, electronic health records, phlebotomy, patient vitals, and EKGs
• Medical Assistant Certificate of Completion from an accredited healthcare training program
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from the American Medical Technologists
• High school diploma or GED

Job Contributions

• Performs duties within the medical assistant scope of practice, under the direct supervision of a physician, mid-level provider, or Nurse Manager, to ensure quality patient care
• Completes required documentation in the electronic health record or other modality
• Verifies dental, behavioral, and medical health information with outside healthcare organizations
• Conducts office duties, including copying, filing, scanning, scheduling, and document preparation
• Responds to and directs clinical calls effectively and professionally in-person, telephonically, and online
• Maintains confidentiality of all information in all communication and interactions

Working Conditions

• Ability to work inside a jail and stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time throughout the shift while accurately handling a high volume of work, communicating with a culturally diverse patient population, and adapting to frequent changes, interruptions, and unscheduled tasks
• Position includes day or night shift work, which may include weekends and holidays
• Travel or floating to various clinical locations is required within a 5-mile radius
• Must be able to respond to emergencies
• Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification and get on the floor to perform CPR/chest compressions, push medical equipment, climb stairs, and lift patients on a gurney
• Must be able to pass a fingerprint background check and maintain MCSO jail access
