Job summary

The University of South Alabama’s Student Health Center is seeking to hire a Medical Assistant. A high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a Medical Assistant training program are required.

Responsibilities include taking vital signs, assisting with exams, drawing blood, performing EKGs, maintaining records, and providing support to front desk staff. Working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or completion of a Medical Assistant training program.
  • Completes training program or certification in Medical Assisting.
  • Experience with clinical workflows is preferred.
  • Ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Takes verbal and written orders from physicians and responds accordingly.
  • Conducts initial intake including vital signs, height and weight.
  • Pulls and accesses charts for completeness and documents in EMR.
  • Prepares, cleans, and stocks exam rooms.
  • Assists patients in exam rooms and lifts as required.
  • Transports specimens to the lab and conducts routine lab tests.
  • Performs EKGs and collects blood samples.
  • Provides backup to front desk staff and handles phone calls.
  • Maintains medical and immunization records and other files.
  • Communicates with physicians, patients, and families with customer relations in mind.

Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position. Essential Functions

  • Takes verbal and written order from the physician and responds accordingly.
  • Conducts initial intake to include taking vital signs, height and weight.
  • Pulls and accesses charts for completeness adn documents in Electronic Medical Record.
  • Prepares, cleans, and stocks exam rooms.
  • Places patients in exam rooms and assists with lifting as required.
  • Transports specimens to lab and conducts routine lab tests.
  • Assists patients in wheelchairs are required.
  • Performs EKG , draws blood samples, and obtains blood cultures.
  • Provides backup to front desk staff.
  • Checks demographic information, prepares charts, answers and directs phone calls.
  • Maintains medical records, immunizations records, and other files.
  • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, and family.
  • Responds to pages and maintains accurate and complete records.
  • Regular and prompt attendance.
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required.
  • Related duties as required.
