Job summary

The CORE Institute in Mesa, AZ is seeking a Medical Assistant to support orthopedic and spine care teams. You will room patients, collect vitals, and document information in the EMR, while coordinating with providers and staff to ensure smooth clinic flow.

Ideal candidates have CMA credential(s), strong knowledge of insurance processes, and experience with EMR and scheduling software. This full‑time role emphasizes HIPAA compliance, patient education, and a positive patient experience.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management preferred.
  • Graduated from a formal CMA training program within the last 12–18 months or grandfathered under state regulation.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and knowledge of insurance, managed care, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or training meeting meaningful use requirements.
  • High school diploma and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate communication between patient and provider during care; collect and share pertinent information.
  • Prepare patient for visit: rooming, vitals, intake paperwork, imaging, dressing changes, setup, prep for injections, data entry into EMR.
  • Assist in initiatives such as PROs and Quality Payment Programs.
  • Maintain exam room standards and cleanliness; restock and sanitize as needed.
  • Manage biohazard and sharps containers; replace when needed.
  • Assist provider with prescriptions and forms; respond to voicemails within 24 hours.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • In lieu of experience must have the following training and/or experience:
    • Graduated from a formal training program during the last 12-18 months, and have the CMA certificate;
    • OR, Is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for meaningful use.
  • High school diploma/GED, and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
Preferred
  • Two years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy clinic.
  • Experience with orthopedics.
Essential Functions
  • Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care:
    • Collect and shares pertinent information with the provider
    • Receives and acts on directives from the provider
  • Responsible for preparing the patient for visit with the provider. Duties include but are not limited to, rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, accurate data entry into EMR.
  • Responsible for completing tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
  • Maintains exam room standards. Rooms should be restocked at the end of each clinic day. Rooms and tables should be cleaned as needed during the clinic and at the end of each day.
  • Monitor biohazard and sharps containers and replace them as needed.
  • Assist the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (i.e. work release, FMLA, etc.).
  • Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
  • Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
  • Verify any outstanding testing results are in EMR, confirm the appropriateness of the patient to the provider (body part and/or insurance), note imaging, DME, or casting needed prior to provider visit on the date of service.
  • Scans clinical documents into EMR.
  • Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
  • Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan
  • Create and promote a positive patient experience
  • Maintain HIPAA compliant environment
  • Maintain clean workspace
