Job summary

Healthcare Outcomes Performance Co. (HOPCo) is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care in orthopedic-related clinics across multiple locations. You will assist with rooming patients, collecting vital signs, EMR data entry, and preparing charts for visits.

The role requires MA certification (RMA/CMA/CCMA/NCMA) and completion of an accredited MA training program. Candidates with strong computer, communication, and organizational skills thrive in this environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
  • Active CMA/RMA/CCMA/NCMA certification required or grandfathered as per state rules.
  • Pass MA competency exam within six months of employment.
  • BLS certification preferred.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate communication between patient and provider during patient care, including collecting and sharing pertinent information and acting on provider directives.
  • Prepare patients for visits: rooming, vitals, intake paperwork, radiology images, dressings, procedure set‑up, injection prep, and accurate EMR data entry.
  • Complete tasks related to company initiatives (PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.).
  • Maintain exam room standards: restock, clean rooms and tables at the end of each clinic day; monitor and replace biohazard and sharps containers as needed.
  • Assist providers with prescription preparation and patient forms (work release, FMLA, etc.).
  • Retrieve and respond to voicemails within 24 business hours; document actions in EMR.
  • Prepare patient electronic charts for clinic visits before the date of service.
  • Verify outstanding test results in EMR, confirm patient suitability (body part, insurance) and note imaging, DME, casting required before provider visit.
  • Scan clinical documents into EMR.
  • Print clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensure patients receive education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manage EMR desktops for assigned providers in a timely manner.
  • Act as PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
  • Create and promote a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain a HIPAA‑compliant environment.
  • Maintain a clean workspace.
Education
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
Experience
  • 1–2 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • In lieu of experience, must have: graduated from a formal training program during the last 12–18 months and hold a CMA certificate; or be grandfathered as defined by state regulation.
Requirements
  • Pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
  • Hold an active Medical Assistant certification (RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA, etc.) with proof of current membership per respective professional organization or state regulations.
  • Experience with office medical procedures, treatments, insurance and managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training that meets meaningful use requirements.
  • BLS certification preferred.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the health care field and general patient care in a clinic.
  • Knowledge of back‑office skills.
  • Understanding of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical record procedures.

  • Strong computer skills and ability to work with medical software.
