Job summary

Georgia Urology is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to support patient flow and care under physician supervision. You will document histories, vitals, and assist with examinations while maintaining HIPAA and OSHA standards.

You will administer medications, manage orders, prep labs, and ensure accurate scheduling across multiple locations. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for patient-centered care.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant.
  • Proficiency in medical software applications, e.g., EMR, EHR, and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, review and document patient medical history and vitals in EMR.
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist the physician during the exam.
  • Provide patient with information, instruction, and education regarding visits and procedures.
  • Administer medications as directed by physician.
  • Process pharmacy requests as directed by physician.
  • Pre-certify patients for treatment.
  • Pull orders and ensure there are no open orders.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for processing.
  • Follow up with patient labs and records in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patients are scheduled with the correct provider.
  • Remove stents, sutures as directed by physician.
  • Prepare exam rooms and maintain cleanliness and equipment.
  • Perform venipuncture on assigned patients with accuracy and care.
  • Maintain HIPAA and OSHA standards and professional dialogue.

Job Purpose:

Under general supervision, the Certified Medical Assistant will provide outstanding care in service to patients and physicians. The CMA must be able to assist the Physician with patient flow in a professional and courteous manner at all times.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Obtain, review and document patient medical history and record vital signs in EMR.
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist the physician during the examination.
  • Provide patient with accurate information, instruction, and education as it pertains to their medical visits and treatment procedures.
  • Administer medications as directed by physician.
  • As directed by physician, process pharmacy requests.
  • Pre-certify patients for treatment.
  • Pull all orders (including telephone) and ensure that there are no patient "open orders".
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for processing.
  • Proactively follow up with patient labs (i.e., biopsy, cysto's, u/a, blood work, etc.) and patient records in a timely manner.
  • Ensure patient is scheduled with correct provider.
  • Remove stents, sutures, etc. as directed by physician.
  • Prepare examination rooms by maintaining the upkeep and cleanliness of the rooms, as well as arranging the instruments and equipment.
  • Perform venipuncture on assigned patients with accuracy and care (not applicable in Peds).
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and OSHA standards of care.
  • Maintain positive and respectful dialogue at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge:
Education/Training
  • 2 years of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Analytical Skills; must be able to understand and follow medical charts and diagnoses.
  • Detail Oriented; must be precise when taking vital signs and recording patient information.
  • Interpersonal Skills; must be able to discuss patient information with physician and other medical personnel tactfully and confidentially.
  • Must be able to interact with patients who may be in pain or in distress in a calm and professional manner.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and follow through skills are required.
Computer literacy:
  • Technical Skills; Proficiency in and working knowledge of medical software applications,
  • e.g., EMR, EHR, as well as Microsoft Office Applications.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
  • Medical Assistant Certification is required.
Driving Requirements:
  • A valid State of Georgia Driver's License and reliable transportation is required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands:

This position requires a substantial amount of standing, sitting and working at a computer station throughout the day.

Work Environment:

Must be flexible and available to work at different locations.
