Catoctin Foot and Ankle Center is a thriving, family-oriented private podiatry practice dedicated to providing top-tier conservative and surgical treatments for the foot and ankle. We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team.

In this role, you will work closely with our providers (including Dr. Cameron Phipps, DPM) to ensure high-quality patient care, smooth clinical operations, and seamless integration with our digital patient platforms.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; CMA or RMA preferred but not necessary.
• 1+ year outpatient clinic experience preferred; podiatry/orthopedics experience a plus.
• Familiarity with EHR tools and digital patient portals; Privia/Athena experience is a bonus.
• Clear communication in English; second language is a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Clinical assistance and preparing patients for evaluation.
• Take vital signs and record medical histories; assist during examinations.
• Take X-rays with training provided; support podiatrist as needed.
• Maintain hygiene, sterilize instruments, and prep exam rooms.
• Manage electronic records in the Athena Portal and handle paperwork.

• Location: 19450 Deerfield Ave, Suite 265, Leesburg/Lansdowne, VA 20176
• Job Type: Full-Time 30-40 hours per week depending on doctor’s schedule. (Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
• Pay Rate: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)

Key Responsibilities

• Clinical Assistance:
• Prepare patients for evaluation by taking detailed medical histories, documenting reason for visit, and recording vital signs.
• Take x-rays- training provided
• Assist the podiatrist as needed during examinations.
• Provide specialized podiatric clinical care, including changing dressings, removing stitches, and assisting with custom orthotics, boots and braces.
• Answer patients emails and phone calls that come through the nurse’s line.
• Keep patient rooms well stocked and prepared for each patient’s visit.
• Maintain strict hygiene protocols by sterilizing surgical instruments and thoroughly prepping exam rooms between appointments.
• Complete daily, weekly and monthly sterilization protocols of instrument and room cleaning.
• Administrative & Platform Management:
• Take weekly inventory of clinical stock and provide re-order lists to office management.
• Accurately manage and update electronic records utilizing the Athena Patient Portal ecosystem.
• Submit and review pathology samples and reports.
• Assist with various paperwork, ie medical records requests, disability forms, FMLA forms, etc.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education & Credentials: High school diploma required. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credentials are preferred but not necessary.
• Experience: 1+ years of outpatient clinic experience is preferred but not necessary. Direct experience in podiatry, orthopedics, or specialized wound care is a major advantage. Full training is offered for this position for highly motivated workers ready to learn new skills.
• Technical Skills: Must be comfortable with technology and able to quickly pick up on new technology platforms. Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) tools and digital patient portals (experience with Privia/Athena platforms is a plus).
• Interpersonal Skills: Exceptionally patient and empathetic, with an understanding of how to support individuals managing chronic pain or mobility challenges. Our office sees a broad range of ages from elderly to infants.
• Communication Skills: We have patients from all backgrounds and ages. Clear communication skills and English proficiency is a must. Speaking a second language is a bonus.
• Work Ethic: Ability to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently while maintaining attention to detail in medical records management and clinical procedures. Needs to be able to take initiative and be self-motivated.
