Job summary

The Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy seeks a Medical Assistant to provide limited health care to cadets under supervision. The role includes coordinating with health services, maintaining records, and supporting the health program under guidance of a physician or licensed nurse.

A flexible schedule including day/evening/weekend hours may be worked. The department may adjust duties as needed. CPR/First Aid certification and a valid Hawaii driver’s license are preferred.

This posting is for the State of Hawaii, Department of Defense, Youth Challenge Academy.

This position is located on the Island of Oahu, Kalaeloa

Salary Rate: Salary Range: Commensurate with Education & Experience

The State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this exempt position to the Department of Defense, Youth Challenge Academy.

This position serves as the Medical Assistant for the Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy and will be responsible for providing limited health care to cadets. The incumbent performs related technical and clerical work for the YCA’s health program, including coordination with community health services under the technical direction of a Physician or licensed registered nurse.

A flex work schedule that includes day, evening, weekend, nights, and holiday hours may also be worked.

The Hawaii National Guard Youth CHalleNGe Academy, at any allotted time, without notice, reserves the right to adjust, modify and or make changes to the duties and responsibilities of this position to ensure Mission success.

A. Working knowledge of and ability to respond quickly and take appropriate first aid action in emergencies.

B. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

C. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

D. Working familiarity of Microsoft Office.

E. Experience safeguarding, person(s), the community and/or businesses.

F. Have worked in a team/collaborative environment.

G. Have demonstrated ability to work in a stressful environment.

PREFERERED QUALIFICATIONS

A. National Guard, Reserve and Retired Military members.

B. Experience working with at-promise youth.

C. Knowledge of the function of the YCA program and objectives; military organization, policies, procedures, and regulations.

D. Must have the ability to instruct/communicate orally to a group of people.

E. Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with others; keep records and prepare reports; communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; direct and supervise at promise youth.

F. Possession of current CPR/First Aid certification.

Possess valid license to drive in the State of Hawaii, and appropriate military driver’s license, if applicable.

Ability to receive and maintain a current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification (American Red Cross, American Heart Association)

Must pass a criminal history background check and be a resident of the State of Hawaii.

This position is exempt from the civil service and considered temporary in nature. Therefore, if you are appointed to the position, your employment will be considered to be "at will", which means that you may be discharged from your employment at the prerogative of your department head or designee at any time.
