Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Medical Assistant for RWJUH Hamilton Hospital in the Outpatient Infusion department. This hourly role supports providers, collaborates with nursing staff, and helps create a welcoming patient experience across our system.

A typical day includes escorting patients, preparing exam rooms, taking vital signs, performing phlebotomy, updating records, and ensuring supplies are stocked.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred or required by position.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Queue patients to appropriate locations and maintain flow.
• Maintain exam room supplies, equipment and stock as needed.
• Assist Nursing staff in Outpatient Infusion area with patient activities.

• Greet patients and verify identity, explain procedures.

A typical day for a Medical Assistant may include:

• Escorts patients in and out of patient exam rooms or infusion area
  
• Queues patients into various locations as appropriate
  
• Maintain exam room supplies, equipment and stock as needed
  
• Assists Nursing staff in Outpatient Infusion aera with patient activities
  
• Notify the nurse and/or physician with all appropriate patient questions/concerns
  
• Obtain all necessary information, including physician notes, prior to patient appointment
  
• Measure and record patients' vital signs in the appropriate section of the medical record
  
• Greets the patient/family, performs appropriate ID checks, and explains all procedures to be performed
  
• Update and record the patient medication reconciliation list in the appropriate section of the medical record
  
• Perform phlebotomy and collection of lab specimens adhering to collection, safety and infection control policies and procedures
  
• Make available the medication list, patient assessment and physician notes on the computer screen for each patient appointment
  
• Applies specimen labels at patients' chairside to blood or non-blood samples with the patients' full name, medical record number, date and time of specimen collection

• You have a high school diploma/GED, a current American Heart Association BLS certification, and successful completion of all Orientation Program is required.
  
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program preferred or Medical Technologist experience
  
• A minimum 1 year of MA experience is preferred
