Job summary

DermCare Management is recruiting a Medical Assistant to support dermatology practices with both administrative and clinical duties. The role involves interviewing patients, documenting histories, preparing for examinations, and assisting providers during procedures across multiple clinic locations.

Ideal candidates have certified Medical Assistant credentials and at least one year of dermatology experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant Certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of one year Medical Assistant experience, preferably in Dermatology.
  • Willingness to travel between clinic locations as needed.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus; not required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient information by interviewing the patient, recording medical history, and documenting purpose of visit.
  • Prepare patients for examination and assist in procedures as appropriate.
  • Perform a variety of patient care tasks under supervision of a licensed provider.
  • Maintain and document patient demographics, records in the EHR.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage communications to confirm visits.
  • Handle medical record updates, coding and insurance forms as needed.
  • Transmitting prescriptions and obtaining authorizations as directed by providers.
  • Travel to other clinic locations as required (Marble Falls, Llano, Bee Cave).
  • Assist with Mohs surgery preparation and post-op instructions.

Duties range widely from administrative to clinical. Key Responsibilities:
General:

  • Maintaining patient privacy and always adhering to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Using computer applications- performing any data entry tasks to document patient demographics, records or note to file. Documenting patients' medical information, including medical history and review of symptoms within EHR of patients’ chart.
  • Managing office telephone system, including answering calls and returning messages.
  • Scheduling patient appointments and maintaining communication to confirm future appointments when necessary.
  • Informing patients on laboratory results and documenting properly within chart.
  • Updating and filing patient medical records and or any patient correspondence.
  • Coding and filling out insurance forms.
  • Transmitting prescription or refill requests as directed by provider.
  • Obtaining prescription authorizations for patient medications.
  • Reporting and recording applicable diagnosis of malignant results to the FCDS portal.
  • Creating certified letter communication for noncompliant patients needing treatment for malignant results.
  • Inform management of clinical supplies needed.
  • Occasional travel to other clinic locations including Marble Falls, Llano, and Bee Cave.
Clinical Duties:
  • Welcoming and greeting patients.
  • Maintaining HIPAA and always performing OSHA standards.
  • Taking medical histories, recording patients' chief complaint and documenting provider evaluation notes of visit in patients’ chart.
  • Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams.
  • Preparing patients for examination-Prepping exam rooms for clinical, surgical or cosmetic procedures and assisting providers during exams with patient care.
  • Preparing and administering medications as directed by a provider.
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
  • Ensuring all consents are signed by the patient prior to provider performing any type of procedure.
  • Pre and post photos to be taken and documentation to be listed in detail for any procedure, biopsy or surgical along with cosmetic.
  • Collecting, labeling and preparing laboratory specimens.
  • Instructing patients about medication.
  • Removing sutures and changing dressings.
  • Maintaining proper cleaning of medical instruments and sterilization.
  • Reviewing office use medication and patient samples expiration dates.
  • Properly disinfecting and restocking of medical supplies in patient exam rooms.
  • Providing compassionate patient support and care, attention and assistance during office visits. Being a patient Liaison. Medical assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease in the physician’s office.
Mohs Surgery Responsibilities
  • Prepare surgical suites for Mohs procedures, ensuring all necessary instruments, supplies, and sterile equipment are available.
  • Assist the Mohs surgeon during surgical procedures using sterile technique.
  • Prepare sterile instrument trays and maintain the sterile field throughout surgery.
  • Assist with patient positioning, local anesthetic preparation, and procedural setup.
  • Provide patients with detailed verbal and written postoperative instructions.
  • Monitor patient comfort throughout surgical procedures and recovery.
  • Coordinate surgical schedules, pathology communication, and postoperative follow-up appointments.
  • Ensure surgical equipment is cleaned, sterilized, and maintained according to OSHA and infection control standards.
Qualifications:

  • Medical Assistant Certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Medical Assistant experience, preferably in Dermatology or a closely related specialty; with a willingness and genuine interest to learn.
  • Ability to travel between clinic locations as needed and applicable to provider coverage.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus; not required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position operates primarily in a professional office/clinical environment. The role regularly requires standing, sitting, working at a computer, communicating with employees, managers, physicians, patients, and walking throughout the day. There are no regular lifting requirements beyond standard office/ practice materials. The work environment is typical of a medical practice setting.
