Job summary

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute is seeking a Medical Assistant to assist physicians with in-office procedures. You will perform phlebotomy, run laboratory tests, and ensure quality control while maintaining equipment and instrumentation.

We are recognized by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) with a national Clinical Trials Participation Award, FCS offers patients access to more clinical trials than any private oncology practice in Florida. Our patients have access to ground‑breaking therapies, in a community setting, and may participate in national clinical research studies of drugs and treatment protocols. In the past five years, the majority of new cancer drugs approved for use in the U.S. were studied in clinical trials with FCS participation prior to approval. Through our partnership with Sarah Cannon, we are one of the largest clinical research organizations in the United States. JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Assist physicians with medical procedures in office. Responsible for phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
  • High School or GED
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES
  • Valid Medical Assistant Certification Required from one of these 5 approved boards:
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) from the National Health career Association (NHA)
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from American Medical Technologist (AMT)
    • The National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) for Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA)
    • Nationally Certified Medical Assistant - RMA(AAH) from American Allied Health
    • Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) from American Medical Certification Association
  • Valid Driver’s License and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations as needed
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
  • One year experience as a medical assistant in clinic or physician’s office with ability to perform venipuncture preferred.

  • Communication Skills: Good command of the English language. Second language is an asset but not required. Effective communication skills (oral, written, presentation), is an active listener, and effectively provides balanced feedback.
  • Customer Service & Organizational Awareness: Strong customer focus. Ability to build an engaging culture of quality, performance effectiveness and operational excellence through best practices, strong business and political acumen, collaboration, and partnerships, as well as a positive employee, physician and community relations.
  • Self-Management: Effectively manages own time, conflicting priorities, self, stress, and professional development. Self-motivated and self-starter with ability work independently with limited supervision. Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-site environment with demonstrated ability to juggle competing priorities and demands from a variety of stakeholders and sites.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook required.

TRAVEL
  • Standard Core Workdays/Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Occasional overtime may be required, and weekend shifts based on location hours and operational needs.
