What You Will Do
  • Welcome patients and help them feel informed, supported, and safe.
  • Use two patient identifiers and protect patient privacy throughout the visit.
  • Room patients and obtain an accurate chief concern, vital signs, medication list, allergies, and required screenings.
  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for provider visits and procedures.
  • Document patient information and completed tasks accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Promptly report concerning vital signs, symptoms, or changes in condition to the appropriate licensed clinician.
  • Perform approved clinical tasks such as specimen collection, point-of-care testing, EKGs, injections, or other procedures after documented training and competency verification.
  • Administer medications or injections only when there is an appropriate order, documented delegation, and verified competency.
  • Label and handle specimens using required patient identifiers and safety procedures.
  • Follow hand hygiene, PPE, sharps-safety, sterilization, disinfection, and infection-prevention requirements.
  • Route patient calls and messages according to protocol without providing medical advice outside the MA role.
  • Help coordinate laboratory work, referrals, orders, follow-up appointments, preventive-care needs, and patient outreach.
  • Support patient access and clinic flow while maintaining safety and accuracy.
  • Maintain clean, prepared, and properly stocked exam rooms.
  • Monitor supplies, medications, and equipment for availability and expiration dates.
  • Communicate respectfully with patients, providers, Front Desk staff, and other departments.
  • Stop and ask for guidance when a task is unfamiliar, outside the MA role, or has not been approved or verified.
  • Participate in required training, competency validation, and performance reviews.
