Job summary

Harmony Healthcare Long Island is seeking a Medical Assistant in Elmont, NY for a full-time position. The role involves preparing patients, assisting clinicians during examinations, taking vital signs, and performing EKGs and basic labs.

Qualified candidates have a Medical Assistant Certification, CPR certification, and at least two years of healthcare experience. Bilingual English/Spanish/Creole is required; shifts include evenings and a rotating Saturday.

Qualifications

• Basic CPR (BCLS) Certification.
• Two years of experience in health care field.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole required.
• Shifts: Mon–Fri 8 AM–4 PM, one evening 12 PM–8 PM, rotating Saturday each month.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the preparation of patients prior to seeing practitioners.
• Assists practitioners with patient care in clinical examinations and materials preparation; e.g. dressing changes, Pap Smear.
• Acts as translator for patients as needed.
• Takes vital signs, administers tuberculin tests, and collects specimens.
• Performs EKG and simple laboratory procedures.
• Distributes lab reports to practitioners for review.
• Maintains inventories and stocking of supplies in examination, nursing and lab areas.
• Maintains logs of required data.

JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant

The following statements reflect the general duties, responsibilities and competencies considered necessary to perform the essential functions of the job and should not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements of this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists with the preparation of patients prior to seeing practitioners
• Assists the practitioners with patient care in the conduct of clinical examinations and materials preparation; i.e. dressing changes, Pap Smear, etc.
• Acts as a translator for patients as needed
• Responsible for taking vital signs, administering tuberculin tests, and performing procedures for specimen collection, routine eye screening, hearing tests, hematocrit, urinalysis, and urine culture
• Performs EKG and simple laboratory procedures
• Distributes lab reports to practitioners for review
• Assist in the maintenance of inventories and stocking of supplies in examination rooms, nursing and lab areas
• Maintains logs of required data as needed
• Acts as the patient’s advocate and liaison for the preservation of patient's rights
• Participates in off-site screening projects as needed
• Participates in departmental QA and other patient-related committees as needed
• Participates in outreach and community screenings as needed
• Participates in case management and patient surveys in maintaining quality assurance
• Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Medical Assistant Certification required
• Basic CPR (BCLS) Certification
• Two years of experience working in the health care field
• Capacity for covering Medical Assistants at all sites as needed
• Bilingual in English and Spanish/Creole required
• This is Monday through Friday. Shifts are from 8 AM to 4 PM, with one evening shift from 12 PM to 8 PM and one rotating Saturday each month
