Medical Assistant (Part-Time)

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant (MA) plays a vital role in supporting the Nurse Practitioner and clinical team in delivering high-quality care to individuals receiving medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and behavioral health services. This position provides direct patient care, clinical support, and administrative assistance to ensure efficient clinic operations and an exceptional patient experience.

Essential Responsibilities
Patient Care
  • Welcome patients and prepare them for appointments by obtaining vital signs, medical histories, and other relevant information.
  • Assist the Nurse Practitioner during examinations and clinical procedures.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, and general health as directed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
  • Observe and report patient reactions or side effects to medications to the Nurse Practitioner or Registered Nurse.
Clinical Support
  • Prepare and administer medications under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner.
  • Perform urine drug screens and other routine laboratory procedures, including specimen collection and documentation.
  • Assist with wound care, vaccinations, and other clinical interventions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure exam rooms and medical equipment are stocked, clean, and ready for patient care.
Administrative Support
  • Schedule and confirm appointments, manage follow-up reminders, and coordinate referrals.
  • Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries in a professional and compassionate manner.
  • Order, stock, and maintain medical and office supplies.
  • Assist with creating and distributing patient education materials.
Compliance & Quality
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and all clinic policies and procedures.
  • Protect patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support clinic operations.
Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and basic computer applications.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism while working in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Preferred
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Previous experience in a medical office, behavioral health, addiction treatment, or medication-assisted treatment (MAT) setting.
  • Familiarity with MAT medications such as buprenorphine or methadone.
