Job summary

American Family Care is seeking a Part-time Medical Assistant in Bakersfield, CA to support outpatient care settings. You will obtain vitals, assist with exams, perform basic lab duties, and manage documentation with a patient‑centred approach.

Qualifications include Medical Assistant Certificate and BLS, with bilingual Spanish skills being a plus. The role offers flexible scheduling and opportunities for growth within AFC’s network.

Qualifications

  • Must have Medical Assistant Certificate.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Available to work Day Shift, Night Shift, Weekdays and Weekends.
  • Exceptional customer service skills are essential.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider in an outpatient clinic.
  • Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit; prepare for exam.
  • Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients.
  • Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and timely.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments per procedure.
  • Draw blood and prepare labs for reference lab processing or in-house processing.
  • Perform laboratory tests, QC, and equipment maintenance as instructed.
  • Respond to lab messages and callback requests promptly.
  • Perform drug screening procedures per established rules.
  • Ensure immunizations are documented and administered as required.
  • Coordinate physician referrals and pre-certifications as needed.
  • Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
  • Cross-train for front desk support when needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provides general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider to patients in an outpatient clinic setting

  • Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients
  • Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure
  • Draw blood and preparation labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing
  • Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions
  • Respond to all lab messages and call back requests
  • Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations

Requirements

Schedule
  • Must be able to work: Weekdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
