Job summary

American Family Care (AFC) is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to join an outpatient clinic in Bakersfield, CA. You will work under a licensed provider, take vitals, collect medical history, and prepare patients for exams while ensuring accurate documentation and timely lab processing.

The role emphasizes compassionate patient service, cross-training for front desk, phlebotomy (preferred), and bilingual Spanish capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Medical Assistant Certificate required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Flexible to day, night, weekdays and weekends.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider to patients in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam.
  • Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients.
  • Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure.
  • Draw blood and preparation labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing.
  • Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions.
  • Respond to all lab messages and call back requests.
  • Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations.
  • Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure.
  • Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis.
  • Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation.
  • Cross-train for front desk when needed

Requirements include:
  • Medical Assistant Certificate
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Must be available to work: Day Shift, Night Shift, Weekdays, Weekends.

  • Phlebotomy (Preferred)
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
Schedule:
  • Must be able to work: Weekdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
