Position Summary: Perform a variety of front and back office clerical duties in support of the assigned area, including collecting patient data and medical history, performing treatment procedures, preparing instruments for sterilization, maintaining a sanitary work area, coordinating and scheduling appointments, and verifying medical coverage. May perform basic clerical duties including cashiering. Adherence to hospital and departmental policies is required. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.
Detailed Responsibilities:
- PATIENT CENTERED MED – Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable
- PATIENT CARE – Assist in preparation of patient care for admission, transfer, and discharge; process prescriptions; assist providers with treatments including setting up sterile fields and chaperoning
- PATIENT CARE – Perform routine non-invasive procedures (e.g., saturation, urine dipsticks); may perform invasive procedures such as phlebotomy, ear irrigation, catheterization, and EKGs
- MEDICATION – Administer medications (including parenteral, oral drops, eye drops) and document clinical findings after completing UNMH MA Medication Administration course
- PATIENT CARE – Conduct basic initial screening; take intakes and vital signs; record chief complaints; collect patient data; report changes in condition
- DATA – Enter data into computer and forms; verify accuracy, schedule appointments; answer/relate messages to providers
- CASHIER – Perform basic cashiering; collect monies; balance cash register
- ENVIRONMENT – Maintain sanitary work areas; report equipment problems; stock supplies; maintain PAR levels
- CUSTOMER SERVICE – Provide quality service and patient satisfaction
- RELATED WORK – Perform related duties as required
- PATIENT SAFETY 1 – Follow patient safety policies and procedures
- PATIENT SAFETY 2 – Proactively improve patient safety by questioning current policies
- PATIENT SAFETY 3 – Identify and report environmental conditions that may risk patient safety
- PATIENT SAFETY 4 – Report potential or actual safety concerns and medical errors promptly
- PATIENT SAFETY 5 – Encourage patients to participate in their care by asking questions
Qualifications
- Education – Essential: High School or GED; Program Graduate
- Education specialization – MA program graduate or 2 years MA experience; UNMH MA Safe Med Admin Course within 90 days
- Experience – Essential: No minimum experience required; 1 year directly related experience (bilingual English/Spanish or other languages listed)
- Credentials – CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider within 30 days
Physical Conditions and Working Conditions:
- Heavy work: Exert 50-100 lbs occasionally, 25-50 lbs frequently, 10-20 lbs constantly; physical demands may exceed Medium Work
- Working conditions include potential exposure to chemicals and biohazards; PPE required
- May travel to various work sites
- May rotate work shifts
