Job summary

Sacbar is seeking a Test Developer to draft exams, perform quality control reviews, and ensure accuracy and integrity of medical assessments. You will guide examination programs through all development stages, maintaining high content and compliance standards.

The role involves coordinating SMEs, maintaining item banks, and working with psychometricians to align forms with blueprints. On-site activity in East Lansing, with travel up to 15%.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree and 3–5 years of relevant work experience in testing or a related field.
• At least two years of program or project management experience; five years preferred.
• Understanding of question writing and examination construction principles; expertise preferred.
• Understanding of measurement principles.
• Ability to collect and analyze data to inform decisions.
• Ability to learn medical terminology.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word); advanced Excel preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with sound judgement.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality about sensitive information.
• Ability to collaborate with teams for continuous quality improvement.
• Experience with web-based item banking apps and project management software.
• Travel up to 15% of the time.

Responsibilities

• Guide multiple examination programs by developing and coordinating schedules for SMEs with staff editors.
• Maintain item banks for multiple programs using standardized processes and gap analyses.
• Develop examination forms aligned with blueprints and selection criteria with psychometricians.
• Guide SMEs through form assembly, publication, key validation, and post-exam reviews.
• Organize exam development committee meetings and related logistics with staff editors.
• Prepare materials for committee, task force, and Board review.
• Assist with onboarding and training of new SMEs; develop training materials with editors.
• Foster relationships with committee members and staff to achieve outcomes.
• Offer test development expertise and share best practices to ensure quality.
• Develop and maintain standard policies for test development activities.
• Consult with psychometricians for scoring tasks and related projects.
• Develop and maintain test development reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide technical support for testing applications and software updates.
• Participate in annual Item Writers Workshop planning and support.
• Staff case development meetings and support case development teams.
• Document item/case development processes and identify improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate to solve problems and communicate findings to stakeholders.
• Represent ABEM at stakeholder and professional conferences.
• Staff certification exam administrations and related meetings.
