Job summary

ABEM seeks a Test Developer to draft exams, perform quality control, and ensure the integrity of medical assessments. You will guide programs through all test development stages, maintaining high standards for content, alignment with blueprints, and compliance.

You will collaborate with SMEs, editors, and psychometricians to establish parameters, develop forms, and support score reporting. Strong communication and data-analysis skills are essential to succeed.

Qualifications

• Four-year degree and 3–5 years of relevant work experience in testing or a related field.
• At least two years of program or project management experience; five years preferred.
• Understanding of question writing and examination construction principles.
• Knowledge of measurement principles and data analytics.
• Ability to learn medical terminology and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

• Guides multiple examination programs by developing schedules with SMEs in collaboration with staff editors.
• Maintains item banks and conducts gap analyses to ensure full domain coverage.
• Develops examination forms and coordinates with psychometricians for parameters.
• Speaks with SMEs through all development stages including review and publication.
• Leads meetings and logistics for exam development committees and oversees training materials.
• Produces committee materials and supports onboarding of new SMEs.
• Fosters relationships with stakeholders to achieve quality outcomes.
• Applies test development best practices and contributes to policy updates.
• Consults with psychometricians on scoring tasks and job task analyses.
