JOB SUMMARY
The Instructional Faculty (job code 2322) member (Medical Anatomy) is responsible for teaching, course development, and student mentorship for the MSPA program. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in course content, commit to active learning approaches, and share in the mission of CSUSB and the MSPA program.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
- Provide teaching and high-quality instruction in the MSPA program’s Medical Anatomy course using active learning methods.
- Coordinate curriculum (i.e., Course Director) within the Medical Anatomy course.
- Evaluate student performance and provide remedial instruction/reassessment as needed.
- Utilize 3-D virtual anatomy platforms proficiently for laboratory instruction.
- Counsel and mentor students related to academic and professional development.
- Support the Director of Didactic Education with the didactic phase of the curriculum, including the design, development, implementation, coordination, evaluation, and maintenance of assigned course(s) with adherence to ARC-PA Standards.
- Contribute to accreditation activities by serving as a content expert for curricular and position-focused areas.
- Support the comprehensive assessment of the didactic phase, including data collection for assigned course(s).
- Collaborate with the Program Director and MSPA program faculty to perform programmatic evaluation.
- Engage in ongoing faculty development to remain aware of issues affecting clinical medicine and/or course content.
- Work collaboratively with academic programs at CSUSB and partner institutions (as needed).
- Serve as an active member of MSPA program committees and relevant CSUSB committees (as needed).
- Perform other duties as determined by the Director of Didactic Education and Program Director.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience
Physician assistant (PA) candidates must be or have:
- Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited program.
- Minimum of three years of clinical practice and/or full-time teaching experience as a Physician Assistant.
Physician (i.e., M.D. and D.O.) candidates must have:
- Medical degree from an LCME- or AOA-accredited institution.
- Current licensure in the state of California as an allopathic (M.D.) or osteopathic (D.O.) physician.
- Minimum of three years of experience working in a clinical setting as a licensed Physician.
- Current knowledge of clinical practice standards.
Non-PA and non-physician candidates must have:
- Terminal or doctoral degree in a related field (e.g., PharmD, DHSc, PhD, EdD) from an accredited institution.
- Related fields include Anatomy, Physiology, Biological Science, or similar.
- Current certification by national board (if actively practicing and applicable to profession).
- Current licensure in the state of California (if actively practicing and applicable to profession).
- Equivalent of at least three years of full-time clinical experience (if applicable to profession) or higher education experience at the time of appointment.

- Working knowledge of and ability to operate standard office equipment and technology including, but not limited to, desktop computer, laptop, copier, fax machine, scanner, and printer.
- Demonstrated proficiency and ability to effectively use common computer and technology programs and related computer software packages (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom, etc.) in the course of assigned duties.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Prior teaching experience in the specified subject matter for a PA program, medical school, or equivalent.
- Experience with a 3D virtual anatomy platform is strongly preferred.
- Ability to incorporate active learning and utilize current educational technology into teaching.
- Additional years of clinical practice and/or full-time teaching experience in a PA program (or the equivalent) beyond the requirements.
- Prior experience with accreditation and/or curriculum development within a PA program (or the equivalent).
- Experience with the Canvas learning management system is a plus.
- Prior experience working within a diverse campus community.
Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued. Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.
