Job summary

Complete-Health is seeking a part-time PRN Medical Assistant to support multiple clinics across the West Birmingham, Adamsville, Gardendale, and Fultondale areas. Responsibilities include greeting patients, taking vital signs, performing basic tests, and coordinating with providers.

The role requires EMR proficiency, strong communication, and the ability to travel between clinics. Prior CMA certification and front-d desk experience are preferred, with competitive hourly pay and mileage

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or CCMA active certificate, or equivalent from two-year program.
  • Six months to one year related experience and/or training is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Take vital signs and record results in EMR.
  • Prepare exam rooms and stock supplies.
  • Assist providers with instruments and procedures.
  • Perform EKGs, urinalysis, tests and specimens.
  • Handle scheduling, billing, and insurance verification.
  • Maintain patient records and confidentiality.

Job Description

Schedule: This position is PRN so days/hours per week will vary. Typical clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm

Location: Must be able to travel between the following areas - West Birmingham, Adamsville, Gardendale, Fultondale, and Homewood

Pay Range: $16.80-22.85 per hour, dependent on experience and certification status + mileage

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of healthcare providers and serves patients by greeting and helping them; scheduling appointments; maintaining records and accounts, checking in and checking out patients, collecting payment and verifying insurance as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Interviews patients, accurately takes vital signs such as: manual BP, pulse rate, temperature, 02 level, weight and height, and properly records information into EMR.
  • Prepares exam rooms for examination of patients as well as stocking them.
  • Hands instruments and materials to provider as directed for certain procedure .
  • Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Performs EKG's, urinalysis, strep test, flu test, covid test, mono test, pregnancy test, checks patients A1C, etc.
  • Gives injections per providers orders (intramuscular, intradermal, subcutaneous).
  • Handles portal messages from patients, refill medications, order additional labs or imaging as needed, complete prior authorizations, complete precertification for imaging, etc.
  • Must have effective communication skills and instructs patient and/or their family as directed by the provider.
  • Call patients to discuss results as directed by the provider while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Keys data into EMR to maintain office and patient records.
  • May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed or as directed by supervision (i.e. assist with patient check-in).
  • Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone, answering or referring inquiries.
  • Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
  • Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays.
  • Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions; maintaining the reception area.
  • Ensures availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
  • Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
  • Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; controlling credit extended to patients; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
  • Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; scheduling equipment service and repairs.
  • Helps patients in distress by responding to emergencies.
  • Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Maintains operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • This role is responsible for assisting patients with mobility and transport needs within the clinical setting. Duties include helping patients in and out of wheelchairs or exam tables, escorting or transporting patients to various areas, and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the process. This role is expected to monitor patients during transport for signs of distress, maintain the cleanliness of transport equipment, and provide emotional support when necessary.
Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Clinical Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant active certificate; OR equivalent from two-year college or technical school; OR six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
  • Must be coachable and work within a team environment, helping peers as needed.
  • Must have a positive attitude and embrace the "we are all one team" acumen.
  • Knowledge of Word Processing software; Internet software, EMR systems (Athena preferred), and Database software.
  • Experience as a front desk medical receptionist preferred.
  • Skillful and knowledgeable in all aspects relating to the front office of a busy medical clinic.
  • Must be a caring and compassionate person able to put patients at ease using excellent communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency is required and software such as EMR (Athena and Epic), Word, Excel, and other programs are strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to read and write legibly.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • The ability to travel to nearby clinics as needed.
  • This position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods. It involves a full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients and equipment. This role must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 30 pounds and assist in moving patients weighing up to 300 pounds. The role also includes regular exposure to bodily fluids and demands of adherence to strict safety and hygiene protocols.
