Purpose:

Provide leadership under the direction of Library Media Services to ensure all students are effective users of ideas and information. Supervise and manage the school library/media center and programs. Offer services and resources that help students develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems (21st-century skills). Engage learners through print and digital resources to access, create, and share content, collaborating as global citizens. Serve as a teacher, materials expert, and curriculum adviser to fully integrate the library/media center into instructional programs. Proficiency in engaging learners using various instructional strategies is required.

Major Responsibilities:
  1. Use the TEK’s/SE’s and library curriculum products, including Library Scope and Sequence, to provide instruction and guidance to students in resource location and research techniques.
  2. Develop strategic plans to meet the standards and guidelines for Texas School Library Programs.
  3. Participate as an educational leader and partner in curriculum development at campus and district levels, consulting with teachers on material use and scheduling.
  4. Model and promote collaborative planning, cooperative teaching, and direct instruction based on learner needs and curriculum standards.
  5. Promote ethical use of internet and electronic resources, instructing students in information evaluation and synthesis.
  6. Provide ongoing learning opportunities for students and staff, emphasizing technology integration and information literacy.
  7. Supervise Media Assistant(s), student aides, and handle multitasking under pressure.
  8. Offer instructional access to resources via flexible scheduling, creating a conducive learning environment.
  9. Maintain a balanced, current, and relevant collection of resources, in compliance with district policies.
  10. Manage library operations including budgeting, purchasing, scheduling, supervising staff and volunteers, reporting, grant writing, circulation, and inventory.
  11. Encourage high circulation, including inter-library loans, to broaden access beyond the campus and instructional hours.
  12. Support academic rigor by teaching research and information processing skills, fostering creativity and innovation.
  13. Collaborate with community and libraries to benefit students.
  14. Enforce discipline according to policies, support students' material choices, and promote positive attitudes towards reading.
  15. Stay informed about the information culture and incorporate it into the program.
  16. Communicate effectively in various forms and ensure compliance with laws and policies.
  17. Continuously evaluate and improve the library/media program based on data.
  18. Engage in professional growth and participate in relevant associations and publications.
  19. Perform administrative tasks to keep the library orderly and functional.
  20. Perform other duties related to the library program as assigned.
  21. Ensure compliance with federal reporting requirements for federally funded incumbents.
  22. Punctual attendance at the worksite is essential.
Work Environment:

The environment is typically moderate noise. District-wide travel is required. Remote work is not an option due to the necessity of regular attendance and on-site duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a related field with valid Texas Library certification; Master’s preferred.
  • At least two years as a qualified teacher; bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Knowledge of library and information science.
  • Ability to instruct and manage students effectively.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Commitment to staying current professionally.

Salary is based on the Board-approved instructional salary schedule.
