Job summary

Chatham County, GA is seeking the Assistant Chief Deputy for Media, Communications & Outreach to lead public information, media relations, and community engagement. This role develops and implements strategies that support the Office’s mission and improve public understanding of services.

You will oversee press releases, website and social media, coordinate outreach events, supervise staff, assist executive leadership with messaging, and collaborate with county partners to ensure timely,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Mass Communications, or Journalism.
• At least three (3) years of experience in journalism, communications, broadcasting, public relations, or a closely related field, including supervisory experience.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and public information requests.
• Draft and distribute press releases, public notices, announcements, newsletters, and official statements.
• Manage and oversee the Office’s website, social media platforms, and digital communications.
• Coordinate community outreach initiatives, public education efforts, and special events.
• Develop communication strategies to promote Office programs, services, and initiatives.
• Assist executive leadership with speechwriting, presentations, talking points, and public messaging.
• Ensure consistency and professionalism in all external communications and branding materials.
• Coordinate with county departments, courts, community organizations, and external stakeholders on joint initiatives and public messaging.
