Job summary

Avamere Living is seeking a Medication Tech to provide direct care and administer medications to residents at Avamere at Rio Rancho. The role includes following physician orders, documenting in EMR, and coordinating with nursing staff to ensure safety and quality of care.

Shifts include Day, Evening, and NOC with weekend variations; full-time hours and a supportive team environment are offered to promote resident well‑being and staff growth.

Qualifications

• Experience as a caregiver or medication tech in memory care or assisted living.
• CPR/First Aid certification must be obtainable during employment.
• Must have or obtain a Food Handler's Card.
• Experience documenting in electronic medical records.

Responsibilities

• Pass medications according to physician orders under supervision of a licensed nurse.
• Administer medications accurately and timely.
• Record medications in the resident's record.
• Notify pharmacy or family for refills.
• Maintain clean medication cart and room.
• Monitor and report side effects to the Director of Health Services.
• Follow care plans and assist with patient needs.
• Assist with medical appointments and communicate with providers.
• Document status changes in the EMR.

Medication Tech

Type: Full time (Day Shift 6am-2pm and Evening Shift 2pm-10pm and NOC (10pm-6am)

Schedule: Various schedules to include weekends. Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs

Location: Avamere at Rio Rancho - 1000 Riverview Drive SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124

The primary role of the Medication Tech is to administer medications and provide direct care to residents.

• Pass medications according to physician orders, delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse and in accordance with facility policy.
• Administer accurately and timely.
• Record medications administered in the resident's record.
• Notify the pharmacy (or family when applicable) when medications need to be refilled.
• Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.
• Monitor and report any/all side effects of medications to the Director of Health Services.
• Obtain/provide shift report. Record sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders.
• Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident's needs and their comprehensive assessment as assigned.
• Assisting with medical appointments, communicating with healthcare providers, and advocating for the residents' needs
• Observing residents for changes in health, reporting concerns to medical professionals, and monitoring vital signs.
• Document information pertaining to changes in residents' status, personal needs, and communications with outside providers in the electronic medical record.
• Complete accident and incident reports in a timely manner and according to facility policy
• Perform delegated nursing services as assigned by the RN.
• Participate in in-service education programs as assigned.
• Promptly report changes in resident conditions to the Director of Health Services.
• Follow written and oral directions.
• Perform all duties assigned in an effective, cooperative, timely and professional manner.
• Be responsible for the safety of residents under their supervision.
• Work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies, and ancillary service providers.
• Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor.

Requirements

• Experience as a Caregiver and Medication Tech in a Memory Care Unit and or Assisted Living Facility.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain active CPR/First Aid Certification during employment.
• Must have the ability to obtain a Food Handler's Card.
• Experience in electronic medical records documentation.
• Must be 18 years or older.
