Job summary

Avamere at Rio Rancho is seeking a Medication Tech to administer medications and provide direct care to residents in a memory care/assisted living setting. Shift options include day, evening, and night, with varied weekend schedules at the Rio Rancho location.

The role requires compassionate, professional demeanor, ability to work with a healthcare team, and adherence to facility policies. CPR/First Aid certification and a Food Handler's Card are required. 18+ and EMR experience preferred.

• Experience as Caregiver/Medication Tech in memory care or assisted living.
• CPR/First Aid certification upon employment.
• Food Handler's Card required.

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Friendly, attentive and professional demeanor with residents.

Responsibilities

• Pass medications according to physician orders and in accordance with facility policy.
• Administer medications accurately and timely.
• Record medications administered in the resident's record.
• Monitor and report side effects to the Director of Health Services.
• Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and room.
• Observe residents and report health changes to providers.
• Complete incident reports promptly and professionally.

Medication Tech

Type: Full time (Day Shift 6am-2pm and Evening Shift 2pm-10pm and NOC (10pm-6am))

Schedule: Various schedules to include weekends. Tues-Sat or Sun-Thurs

Location: Avamere at Rio Rancho - 1000 Riverview Drive SE, Rio Rancho, NM 87124

The primary role of the Medication Tech is to administer medications and provide direct care to residents.

• Pass medications according to physician orders, delegated by and under the supervision of a licensed nurse and in accordance with facility policy.
• Administer accurately and timely
• Record medications administered in the resident's record
• Notify the pharmacy (or family when applicable) when medications need to be refilled
• Maintain a clean and organized medication cart and medication room
• Monitor and report any/all side effects of medications to the Director of Health Services
• Obtain/provide shift report. Record sufficient information related to medication administration to implement accurate changes to medication orders
• Follow comprehensive care plans related to medication administration based on each resident's needs and their comprehensive assessment as assigned
• Assisting with medical appointments, communicating with healthcare providers, and advocating for the residents' needs
• Observing residents for changes in health, reporting concerns to medical professionals, and monitoring vital signs.
• Document information pertaining to changes in residents' status, personal needs, and communications with outside providers in the electronic medical record
• Complete accident and incident reports in a timely manner and according to facility policy
• Perform delegated nursing services as assigned by the RN
• Participate in in-service education programs as assigned
• Promptly report changes in resident conditions to the Director of Health Services.
• Follow written and oral directions
• Perform all duties assigned in an effective, cooperative, timely and professional manner
• Be responsible for the safety of residents under their supervision
• Work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies, and ancillary service providers
• Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures
• Maintain confidentiality of resident and facility information
• Perform other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor

Requirements

• Experience as a Caregiver and Medication Tech in a Memory Care Unit and or Assisted Living Facility.
• Must have the ability to obtain and maintain active CPR/First Aid Certification during employment.
• Must have the ability to obtain a Food Handler's Card.
• Experience in electronic medical records documentation.
• Must be 18 years or older
• Friendly, attentive, and professional demeanor with residents and guests.
