Job Description

The Med Tech provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living for residents of the community as well as assists with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the administration of prescribed medications within the established scope of practice.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living.
  • Report incidents involving residents, including care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (ex: HCD, RN/LPN, or ED).
  • Perform housekeeping duties, such as making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room, etc., as directed by supervisor.
  • Respond promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts.
  • Assist in planning and conducting activity programs for residents.
  • Follow confidentiality policies regarding the release of resident information.
  • Assist residents to and from the dining room and activities.
  • Check on residents to ensure attendance at meals and activities.
  • Check on residents who are ill and report status or concerns to appropriate individuals.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers.
  • Assist new residents with move‑in transition and provide emotional support.
  • Attend all scheduled medication trainings.
  • Complete medication cart audits as assigned and maintain the medication cart as directed.
  • Pass all medication administration observations.
  • Communicate all medication resident needs to the HCD and document in the Daily Log.
  • Re‑order medications, fax to pharmacy, and communicate with resident family/RP as needed with changes.
  • Report in the Daily Log.
  • Document all medication administration on the EMAR/MAR.
  • Report all exceptions to the HCD and document on EMAR and Daily Log.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of the Medication Aide Course.
  • Current CNA and Med Tech license from the State Board of Nursing in good standing.
  • Pass two medication observations annually.
  • Pass all medication cart audits assigned.
  • Attend four additional hours of medication administration education annually.
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Be organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel.
  • Be a contributing member of the nursing team and follow the instruction of the supervisor.
  • Be polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co‑workers at all times.
  • Walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and push or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics.
  • Wear the designated uniform during working hours, including a name badge and a smile.
  • Be CPR/First Aid certified, or be willing to become certified within 60 days of hire.
  • Represent the community in a positive and professional manner.
  • Attend and complete all required in‑services and staff meetings.
  • Work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays.
  • Remain calm and competent during emergencies.
