Job summary

George Washington University Hospital seeks a full-time Med Surg RN Oncology for day shift on a high-acuity academic unit. The nurse delivers evidence-based med-surg and oncology care to adult patients, including complex chemotherapy, symptom management, and perioperative support.

Responsibilities include assessment, care planning, medication and chemo administration, patient and family education, and coordination with an interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Active RN license in DC (or compact eligible).
  • BLS certification required.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • Oncology/chemo certification preferred.
  • Experience with EHR and med-surg/oncology nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct med-surg oncology nursing care to adult patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
  • Administer medications, chemotherapy, and supportive therapies safely and accurately.
  • Monitor patient status, interpret clinical data, and respond promptly to changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate complex care.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, symptom management, and discharge plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Precept and mentor new nurses and students in an academic teaching environment.
  • Participate in quality improvement, research, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Follow infection prevention, safety, and hospital policies to ensure a safe care environment.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, continuous learning, and clinical excellence.

Job description
