Job summary

George Washington University Hospital in downtown Washington, DC is seeking a night-shift Med Surg RN to support pre- and postoperative patients across a wide range of surgical specialties, offering strong clinical exposure and growth opportunities.

You will provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care, collaborate with physicians, APPs, and interdisciplinary teams, and guide patients through recovery in perioperative pathways.

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in good standing with state board.
  • Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program.
  • Prefer 1 year full-time or 3 years part-time experience in acute care setting.
  • BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality, patient-centered nursing care.

Join a high-acuity Med Surg / General Surgery team at George Washington University Hospital, a 395bed academic medical center in the heart of downtown Washington, DC. This is a night-shift Med Surg RN role supporting pre and postoperative patients across a wide variety of surgical specialties, offering strong clinical exposure and long-term growth opportunities.

This role is ideal for RNs who enjoy variety, collaboration, and developing advanced surgical nursing skills in a well-supported hospital environment.

Unit Overview
  • Pre and postoperative care with bariatric surgery designation (Center of Excellence)
  • Patient populations include:
    • Laparoscopic & minimally invasive procedures
    • Bariatric surgery
    • Tracheostomies
    • Kidney & liver transplants
    • Trauma and complex surgical cases
  • Opportunity to develop skills across multiple surgical specialties
