Job summary

Mercy Health in Springfield Regional Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Nursing Student (RN) for the Med Surg unit. The role provides direct patient care under RN guidance and offers clinical exposure through shadowing and delegated patient care activities.

You will gain experience in applying the nursing process, performing routine assessments, and documenting care while supporting the healthcare team in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• HS/GED required or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in a nursing program with at least one clinical nursing course and one clinical rotation (required).
• Must have completed First Clinical Rotation as a Nursing Student; EPIC EHR training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the nurse in applying the nursing process under RN direction.
• Develop critical thinking skills through collaboration with the RN to ensure quality patient care.
• Provide basic patient care including vital signs, hygiene, mobility, feeding and hydration.
• Act as liaison between patient and nurse and report changes or concerns.
• Provide high level customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation for patient care.
• Participate in hand-off reports for patient and unit needs.
• Perform delegated tasks once competency is validated.
• Assist with patient data collection (vital signs, intake/output, changes in condition).
• Aid in activities of daily living and mobility as directed.
