River's Edge Hospital & Clinic is seeking a Charge Nurse for the overnight RN team in Saint Peter, MN. The role focuses on nursing care coordination, unit leadership, and staff development during 7:00 PM–7:30 AM shifts.

The Charge Nurse will participate in staffing decisions, unit management, and incident command during safety events, while ensuring real-time ADT processing and high-quality patient care. Minnesota RN licensure is required.

Qualifications

• Hold a current Minnesota RN license.
• Certified in BLS; ACLS or able to complete ACLS within six months.
• PALS or able to complete PALS within six months.
• Trauma training course within six weeks of hire and TNCC within eighteen months.
• Minimum of one year experience as an acute care RN; two years preferred.
• Previous Charge Nurse experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Charge Nurse is the first level of administration on the unit in the absence of the Nursing Manager and House Manager.
• Maintain appropriate and timely communication with on-duty Nursing Manager/House Manager.
• Inform Nurse Manager/House Manager of unit issues and concerns.
• Seek assistance from Nurse Manager/House Manager with staffing issues.
• Complete assigned charge nurse tasks and support quality activities.

Med Surg Charge Nurse - Overnights (RN) Location 1900 N SUNRISE DR, Saint Peter, MN, 56082, United States Base Pay $38.22 - $58.37 / Hour Other Compensation $3 above base pay for Charge Shifts Employee Type Non-Exempt Minimum Experience 1 Year

The registered nurse is accountable for the provisions of nursing care to all patients in the hospital and to prescribe, delegate and coordinate that care as part of the daily responsibility. The registered nurse will also participate in unit management, staff orientation and self-development. Sincere interest in nursing with knowledge in general medical/surgical nursing and the ability to use the nursing process. Ability to interact in a positive and cooperative manner with courtesy and respect towards co-workers, patients and other customers.

Role and Reporting

• Charge Nurse is first level of administration assigned to the unit in the absence of the Nursing Manager and House Manager.
• Appropriate and timely communication must be maintained with on duty Nursing Manager/House Manager.
• Informs Nurse Manager/ House Manager of unit issues and concerns.
• Seeks assistance from Nurse Manager/ House Manager with staffing issues.
• Completes assigned charge nurse tasks.
• Assists in evaluating standards of care through quality activities.
• Promotes and influences a positive atmosphere in the department of nursing.
• Act as initial incident commander and leader for the facility during a safety or security event: Fire, weather. Know where to find the Disaster Plans and be prepared to carry them out.

Patient Flow

• The charge nurse is responsible for the immediate functioning of the unit.
• Organizes, prioritizes and delegates work flow including making assignments.
• Participates in decision making regarding patient flow; admissions, discharges and transfers (ADT).
• The charge nurse is responsible for overseeing that ADT transactions happen in real time.
• Collaborates with other health care disciplines/ departments to maintain communication and provide optimal level of patient care; lab, social services.
• Ensures daily staffing requirements are met

Patient Care

• Assists in nursing care management of the unit to provide optimal level of care to all patients.
• Keeps informed about the status of all patients.
• Train other nurses in patient care.
• Charge Nurse may be assigned patient care responsibilities.
• The charge nurse supports excellent customer service by rounding on staff, patients and their families and working to resolve conflicts.

Unit Tasks

• Oversees completion of unit specific administrative tasks (e.g. census sheet, narcotic count, real time ADT).

Orthopedic Center of Excellence skills as listed below to include Hip, Knee, Shoulder and Spine procedures

• Clinical review of preoperative chart for best practice.
• Coordination of surgery schedule with Surgery HUC.
• Coordinate patients activities with PT/OT.
• Coordinates with Social Services and Utilization Review to complete patient discharge.
• Acts as a clinical resource for orthopedic surgery patients.
• Education per current DNV requirements as defined by CR.5 DNV regulatory guidelines.
• Education to include eight hours on hire and annually.
• Education for charge nurse orientation.

Physical Demands/Requirements

• a) Continual ability to be mobile, talking/hearing in person and on phone, vision for close up work & color vision needed.
• b) Frequent walking, turning/pivoting, grasping, pushing/pulling, keyboarding, and repetitive hand movements.
• c) Occasional sitting, stationary standing, stooping, twisting, reaching overhead, pinching, and lifting/carrying.
• d) Lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling 30 pounds and over is an essential function of this position, in a non-repetitious manner.

Requirements

• Holds a current Minnesota RN license.
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) (American Heart Association), ACLS or able to complete ACLS within six months of hire, PALS or ability to complete PALS within six months of hire.
• Registered nurses caring for trauma admissions to the medical/surgical floor are required to complete a trauma training course within six weeks of hire and complete a TNCC course within eighteen months of hire.
• Minimum of one year experience as a acute care RN preferred. Two years or more experience as acute care RN preferred.
• Previous Charge Nurse experience in a hospital setting preferred.

Summary

River's Edge Hospital is looking for a Charge Nurse to work our overnight shift from 7:00pm to 7:30am.

Registered Nurse would be hired to work staff shifts as well as Charge Nurse shifts.

This position is .75 FTE (60 hours per two weeks), working every third weekend.
