Job description

ASI is expanding its teams to support its current ramp-up across development work, customer projects, and product deployments. This is a full-time W-2 contract position. The selected candidate will interview with ASI and work as an integrated member of the ASI team. W-2 employment, payroll, and benefits will be administered through one of ASI's staffing partners.

JOB SUMMARY

As a Mechatronics Technician III at ASI, you are supporting the Logistics team's yard truck program - hooking trailers and moving them dock to dock - including drive-by-wire development. You will be a part of a deployment team, and this role helps design and implement the deployment for customers. Day to day it runs the sequence of getting a truck ready, then moving it into deployment and commissioning: setting up sites, commissioning vehicles alongside RDO, and helping commercialize the yard truck. You manage field assignments independently, drive issue resolution, and serve as a technical resource for junior technicians and cross-functional teams. This is a hybrid role based out of our Mendon, UT headquarters. Planned and short-notice travel within the CONUS up to 60% may be required. Candidates must be able to pass a DOT medical evaluation and an MVR inquiry will be performed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Hands-on mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical diagnostics on autonomous vehicles
  • Operate and evaluate autonomous robotic systems across all modes to assess performance, functionality, and reliability.
  • Execute complex mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical diagnostics and repairs on autonomous vehicles.
  • Manage field assignments from dispatch through resolution, including customer communication and documentation.
  • Analyze recurring failure patterns and collaborate with Engineering to develop lasting solutions.
  • Maintain complete and accurate service records, field reports, and parts usage documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance to Technician I and II personnel in the field.
  • Evaluate new tools and procedures in the field and report findings to Engineering.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, JOB SKILLS
  • Associate degree in electronics, mechatronics, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass a DOT medical evaluation.
  • 4-7 years of hands-on experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and using advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Leadership, foreman, or supervisory experience.
  • Strong test and documentation experience.
  • OSHA 10 (or willing to be trained).
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 60% as required.
  • Experience working outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions.
  • Exposure to field service, fleet maintenance, or customer-facing technical roles.
  • Familiarity with electric or battery-powered equipment.
  • Prior experience with robotics or autonomous systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to effectively traverse in an indoor or outdoor work environment for 6-10 hours a day.
  • Enter and exit equipment on average 10 times a day.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, crouch, and reach to install, test, and inspect equipment.
  • Ability to safely and effectively complete tasks in varied weather conditions and uneven terrain.
  • Ability to document results using a laptop and a mobile phone throughout the shift.
  • Ability to detect, identify, and respond to safety risks and environmental cues to safely operate and evaluate equipment.
  • Ability to effectively complete essential functions while exposed to environmental allergens and fluctuating temperatures.
