Job description

R&D Engineer, Computer Vision & Mechatronics

Work Arrangement: Onsite M-F

Employment Type: Full-time, Direct Hire

Salary: $95,000 to $100,000 annually

Travel: Domestic and international travel may be required

The Opportunity

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with an established industrial technology organization in Dallas to hire an R&D Engineer specializing in software development, computer vision, machine learning, and mechatronic systems.

This is not a traditional mechanical engineering position. The organization is expanding its capabilities in intelligent industrial equipment and needs an engineer who can bring strong software expertise to a primarily mechanical engineering environment.

The R&D Engineer will work on innovative monitoring and detection systems that combine cameras, embedded sensors, AI/ML models, electronics, and industrial equipment. Current initiatives include camera-based technology that detects missing equipment components and embedded sensor solutions that alert operators when a potential failure occurs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a curious, hands-on engineer who enjoys building new technology, working through unclear requirements, and taking ownership of complex problems from concept through testing and implementation.

What You'll Do
  • Develop, test, debug, and maintain software used for data collection, image processing, analysis, and equipment monitoring
  • Support computer vision and machine learning initiatives involving cameras, sensor data, CNNs, and Vision Transformers
  • Build and improve applications using Python and other modern development technologies
  • Collaborate with external software partners to review deliverables, guide technical direction, and establish development best practices
  • Help create user interfaces and software tools using technologies such as React, ReactJS, or Node.js
  • Integrate software with cameras, embedded sensors, electronics, and electro-mechanical equipment
  • Collect, filter, analyze, and troubleshoot sensor and visual data
  • Participate in prototype development, lab testing, design experiments, and field testing
  • Contribute to technical documentation, version control, code reviews, and product development plans
  • Partner with mechanical engineers and other technical stakeholders to bring new industrial products to market
  • Assist with product installations and field validation as solutions move into production
  • Use CAD tools as needed to review or update models, assemblies, and engineering drawings
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • At least three years of professional engineering, R&D, product development, or software development experience
  • Professional software development experience beyond academic projects
  • Strong programming experience, preferably with Python
  • Exposure to artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, or image processing
  • Experience using Git, GitHub, or a comparable version-control platform
  • Ability to work independently and move projects forward when requirements are still evolving
  • Strong problem-solving, technical communication, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work onsite in Dallas during the initial training and ramp-up period
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally for field testing and product installations
Preferred Experience
  • React, ReactJS, Node.js, or full-stack development
  • Camera systems and visual-data processing
  • Convolutional Neural Networks or Vision Transformers
  • Embedded systems, electronics, IoT, or sensor integration
  • Sensor-data collection, filtering, analysis, and troubleshooting
  • Industrial automation, robotics, manufacturing, construction equipment, or mining technology
  • CAD experience with Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, NX, or a similar platform
  • Design of experiments, prototype testing, lab testing, or field validation
Who Will Be Successful

The strongest candidate will be a builder and problem solver who enjoys learning new technologies and figuring out solutions without waiting for a detailed roadmap.

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Enjoy experimenting with software, sensors, electronics, or cameras
  • Can translate software concepts for mechanical and business stakeholders
  • Are comfortable working in an emerging technology environment
  • Take initiative and follow problems through to resolution
  • Can evaluate third-party software and provide thoughtful technical direction
  • Want to become a key software resource within a growing engineering organization
