Job summary

Planate Management Group seeks a Mechatronics Intern to support our Robotics team in building, assembling, and testing mechanical and electrical components. You will work hands-on with parts, tools, wiring, and hardware to turn designs and build instructions into working products.

Successful candidates are pursuing a degree in Mechatronics or related fields, with basic soldering experience and a willingness to learn power tools, read schematics, and operate bench equipment in our Orlando office

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Basic soldering experience from coursework, hobby projects, robotics clubs or similar.

Responsibilities

• Solder components onto circuit boards and perform basic electronic assembly.
• Cut, strip, crimp, and route wires and cables for electrical assemblies.
• Cut and prepare materials using hand and power tools.
• Assemble mechanical and electrical components according to drawings and build instructions.
• Perform basic testing and inspection using multimeters and bench equipment.
• Assist with wiring and setup of electronics including power supplies, batteries, motors and sensors.
• Maintain an organized and safe workspace.

Planate Management Group (PMG) is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and Orlando, Florida USA with a technical support center in South East Asia and East Africa, that provides program management and facilities engineering services worldwide. Planate is a small business provider of planning, design, infrastructure management, technical consulting, engineering, and construction management services in support of the US Department of Defense (DOD) and its Service (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps) missions, along with other US federal agencies, all over the world.

We are looking for a Mechatronics Intern to support our Robotics team in building, assembling, and testing mechanical and electrical components. You will work hands-on with parts, tools, wiring, and hardware to turn designs and build instructions into working products.

You are expected to work from our Orlando office for six (6) hours/day.

Key Responsibilities:

• Solder components onto circuit boards and perform basic electronic assembly
• Cut, strip, crimp, and route wires and cables for electrical assemblies
• Cut and prepare materials such as metal, plastic, and wood using hand and power tools
• Assemble mechanical and electrical components according to drawings, schematics, and build instructions
• Perform basic testing and inspection using tools such as multimeters and other bench equipment
• Assist with wiring and setup of electronics, including power supplies, batteries, motors, and sensors
• Maintain an organized and clean workspace while following safety procedure

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

• Currently pursuing a degree or program in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field, or have equivalent hands-on experience
• Basic soldering experience through coursework, hobby projects, robotics clubs, or similar activities
• Comfortable using hand tools and willing to learn how to safely operate power tools
• Able to read and follow basic electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and build instructions
• Detail-oriented, patient, hands-on, and willing to learn
• Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Jetson, or similar robotics and electronics projects preferred
• Familiarity with 3D printing or CAD preferred
• Hands-on experience setting up electronics, including wiring power, batteries, motors, sensors, and using bench equipment such as power supplies and multimeters preferred
• Familiarity with basic machining and fabrication techniques is preferred.
