Job summary

ArcBest is seeking an Intern, Mechatronics Engineer to contribute to the development and safe deployment of industrial vehicles from a hardware and safety perspective. You will participate in R&D for autonomous systems, including computer vision, path planning, and electro-mechanical integration.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechatronics/EE/ME/CS or related field.
• Superior academic and leadership achievements, preferred.
• Prior experience in mechanical and electrical engineering, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage a research project during the internship that focuses on key research and development problems.
• Assist in setup and maintain design of software modules and overall architecture.
• Perform ad-hoc requests to review, develop, and/or analyze operational or department specific processes.
• Design, develop, and enhance electro-mechanical systems and mechatronic devices.
• Create automated systems and collaborate with software teams to control them.
• Program vehicle controllers using various tools and utilities.
• Use CAD software, like SolidWorks, to model electro-mechanical hardware.
• Create and troubleshoot electrical schematics.
• Monitor failure modes from field deployments and work on quality improvements through the product lifecycle.
• Conduct research, document findings, and present reports at meetings.
• Identify areas of weakness in the production line or finished products and make recommendations for improvement.
• Understand problems or client briefs and develop solutions that satisfy them.
• Select the required tools and materials for the manufacturing process.
• Attend workshops, training sessions, and conferences to network with others and stay on top of field advancements.
• Maintain a positive attitude in a highly intense environment.
• Work in a team setting to accomplish department goals.
• Other duties and projects, as assigned.
