Job description

Mechatronics Integration Engineer (Aerial Robotics Systems)

We are building the future of decentralized, intelligent aerial networks — combining cutting-edge biology, machine learning, and drone technologies. As a Mechatronics Integration Engineer, you'll be at the heart of our hardware development efforts, helping us design, manufacture, and integrate mechanical components for bio-inspired surveillance drones. You'll work closely with engineers across multiple disciplines to prototype, test, and iterate on drone systems that operate autonomously and at scale. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and startup environment and enjoys taking ideas from concept to reality using CAD tools, mechanical fabrication, and precise documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and iterate mechanical components and assemblies for drone platforms using SolidWorks and other CAD software.
  • Collaborate with engineers and AI specialists to ensure seamless hardware integration across disciplines.
  • Operate CNC machines, 3D printers, laser cutters, and other fabrication tools to manufacture components.
  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot integrated systems, including sensors, mechanical linkages, and embedded electronics.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of mechanical designs, test procedures, and integration processes.
  • Contribute to cross-functional design reviews and help evolve product architecture in alignment with mission goals.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized prototyping lab and shop environment.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electromechanical issues during prototyping and testing phases, ensuring system reliability and performance.
  • Write detailed weekly technical memorandums on the work completed over the course of a week.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar parametric CAD software.
  • Experience with mechanical hardware integration and rapid prototyping techniques.
  • Familiarity with the design and manufacturing process.
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset.
  • Comfortable using tools and machinery for small-batch or custom fabrication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or research experience in robotics, drone systems, or mechanical prototyping environments.
  • Experience integrating mechanical assemblies with sensors, microcontrollers, and embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with multi-disciplinary collaboration (e.g., working alongside software, bioengineering, or AI teams).
  • Exposure to aerial or mobile robotic systems and understanding of system-level trade-offs.
