Job summary

Zoox is seeking a mechatronics engineer to own electromechanical closures hardware in our autonomous vehicle program. You will lead hardware from concept through supplier development, validation, and launch, interfacing with firmware, controls, and manufacturing teams in Foster City, California.

The role requires building models of motor and actuator systems, plus hands-on work with testing benches and tooling. Strong CAD skills (CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE) and Python/MATLAB data analysis are essential.

Qualifications

• BS in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or related field; 3+ years professional experience.
• Experience developing electromechanical hardware (latches, actuators, motors) with suppliers.
• Proficiency in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and modeling.
• Experience with 3D CAD, CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE, and GD&T/dimensional engineering.
• Comfort debugging across mechanical, electrical, and software boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Own closures electromechanical hardware on new programs from requirements and concept through supplier development, validation, and launch.
• Analyze fleet data and returned hardware with Python or MATLAB to identify and prioritize issues on vehicles in service, then root cause them and drive corrective action.
• Define and improve actuation behavior with firmware partners, including control strategy, detection and fault handling, and durability of the mechanism.
• Model system dynamics to set requirements for motor and actuator selection, gear train sizing, duty cycle, and load cases, and build the benches, fixtures, and test automation to verify them.
