Job summary

FieldAI’s Irvine team builds embodied intelligence hardware for real-world robotics deployments, combining mechanical, electrical, and software in rugged field-ready systems. You will design packaging for electronics, integrate sensors, and bring hardware from concept through field use on large wheeled platforms.

We seek engineers across entry to senior levels with hands-on experience in CAD, PCB design, and electromechanical integration, ready to ship robust hardware in real-world environments

Qualifications

• Education in Mechatronics or related field with thesis or project work.
• Experience across mechanical, electrical and software domains.
• Proficient in CAD and PCB design for rugged hardware.
• Hands-on fabrication, assembly and debugging in hardware.
• Ability to work across disciplines and field environments.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical CAD & Packaging: design packaging for electronics compute boxes with sensor integration.
• Thermal & Structural: address thermal/structural challenges for rugged outdoors use.
• Fabrication & Integration: coordinate external fab shops, assembly and bring-up.
• PCB Design: power regulation and communication tracing with proper validation.
• Sensor/Compute Integration: integrate cameras, LiDAR, and onboard compute.
• Electrical Bring-up & Validation: diagnose failures to root cause.
• Electromechanical Integration: integrate actuators with mechanical and electrical systems.
• Control Systems: support tuning of motion/actuation control loops.
• Cross-Domain Troubleshooting: diagnose mechanical/electrical/firmware issues.
• Full Lifecycle Platform Support: from CAD to deployed hardware.
• Platform Integration: install hardware on large wheeled platforms.
• Field Deployment & Support: diagnose real-world failures and patch designs.
• Autonomy Collaboration: align hardware with autonomy team decisions.
• Special Projects: multi-modal, arms, or multi-robot collaborations.
