Job summary

Light Materials is reinventing high-performance materials by building machines that do not yet exist. You will transform early concepts into detailed, buildable designs for robotic reactors, vacuum chambers, and specialized equipment, driving from idea to working hardware.

Expect ownership from day one and rapid growth as you work alongside experts in materials science, lasers, and process engineering to validate, iterate, and scale novel subsystems.

Qualifications

• B.S. or M.S. in mechanical, electrical, or mechatronic engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Strong mechanical design fundamentals (CAD, simulation, design for fabrication).
• Fluency with practical electronics: wiring, soldering, and programming microcontrollers.
• A track record of building real hardware in labs, competitions, internships, or personal projects.

Responsibilities

• Turn early concepts into detailed, buildable designs for unique machines.
• Own engineering work: component selection, CAD drawings, materials and tolerances, wiring, assembly.
• Build, test, and debug designs on bench and production floor, iterating quickly.
• Collaborate with materials science, process engineering, and applications experts.
