Job summary

Yield Engineering Systems in Fremont, CA is seeking a Mechatronics Engineer to design, integrate, and test advanced semiconductor capital equipment. You will work on wafer handling robots, motion control, sensor integration, and contribute to electrical and controls design under senior engineers.

The role requires a BS in a related engineering field, coursework in controls/automation, CAD proficiency, and hands-on lab experience.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field.
• Coursework or project experience in controls, robotics, or automation.
• Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD Electrical) or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits and control systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn in a hands-on lab and fab environment.

Responsibilities

• Support design, integration, and troubleshooting of mechatronic subsystems for semiconductor capital equipment.
• Assist with electrical and controls design under senior engineers, including schematics and panel layouts.
• Support control system programming, configuration, and testing (PLC/PC-based).
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to engineering documentation (BOMs, drawings, procedures).
• Build and test control system prototypes and test fixtures; aid hardware bring-up and debugging.
• Support safety compliance activities (SEMI S2, UL 508A, NFPA 79) under guidance.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, software, and process teams throughout development.
• Support manufacturing and field service teams with documentation and on-site commissioning.

Job Title: Mechatronics Engineer

Location: Fremont, CA

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Support the design, integration, and troubleshooting of mechatronic subsystems for semiconductor capital equipment, including wafer handling robots, motion control, and sensor integration.
• Assist with electrical and controls design under the guidance of senior engineers, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts.
• Support control system programming, configuration, and testing (PLC/PC-based control, industrial communication protocols, HMI development).
• Participate in design reviews and contribute to engineering documentation (BOMs, assembly drawings, test procedures).
• Build and test control system prototypes and test fixtures; support hardware bring-up and debug.
• Support electrical and product safety compliance activities (SEMI S2, UL 508A, NFPA 79) under senior engineer guidance.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, software, and process engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Support manufacturing and field service teams with documentation, troubleshooting guides, and on-site commissioning as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Coursework or project experience in controls, robotics, or automation (capstone/senior design project experience a plus).
• Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent).
• Basic understanding of electrical/electronic circuits and control systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and willingness to learn in a hands-on lab and fab environment.

Preferred:

• Internship or capstone project experience in semiconductor, robotics, or industrial automation.
• Exposure to PLC/motion control programming (e.g., B&R Automation Studio, Siemens, Allen-Bradley) or industrial protocols (OPC UA, EtherCAT, DeviceNet, Modbus).
• Familiarity with motor/drive sizing, sensor selection, or vacuum system fundamentals.
• Awareness of relevant safety standards (SEMI S2, ISO 13849-1, NFPA 79) a plus.

Travel Requirements:

• Position requires minimal travel (up to 10%).

Compensation:

• The base salary range for this position is $85,000–$115,000 per year; higher compensation may be available depending on advanced skills and/or specific experience.
• YES also offers a performance-based annual bonus and a competitive benefits package, which includes a 401(k) match, medical, dental, vision and life insurance, in addition to flexible PTO.
