Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical equipment and assemblies using SolidWorks.

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, technically curious, and results-driven Mechanical Design Engineer who is interested in growing into a broader Mechatronics role. This position is responsible for designing and developing automated purification systems while working across mechanical design, equipment development, testing, and automation.

The ideal candidate has strong SolidWorks experience and a hands-on mechanical mindset, with experience working alongside manufacturing, technicians, vendors, and physical equipment. Some exposure to electrical systems, controls, instrumentation, sensors, motors, or valves is preferred.

PLC programming experience is a plus, but is not required. We are open to strong mechanical engineers who have the technical aptitude and desire to learn PLC programming and develop broader mechatronics capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design mechanical equipment, assemblies, frames, piping layouts, and components using SolidWorks
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings, bills of materials, and manufacturing documentation
  • Design, modify, and improve automated process equipment and purification systems
  • Support the development and modification of automated equipment and control systems
  • Work with manufacturing technicians during equipment assembly, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Read and develop P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and electrical/control schematics
  • Select mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components
  • Work with pumps, valves, motors, VFDs, sensors, transmitters, and other instrumentation
  • Develop equipment sequences, alarms, interlocks, and control logic as skills develop
  • Learn to modify and troubleshoot PLC programs and HMI interfaces
  • Support equipment startup, testing, debugging, and factory acceptance testing
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and controls issues
  • Support equipment installation and commissioning at customer facilities
  • Improve and standardize existing equipment designs and processes
  • Participate in new product and system development
  • Work with customers, vendors, technicians, and other engineers to solve technical problems
  • Support SolidWorks Vault/PDM and other engineering systems and processes
  • Take ownership of projects and independently identify and resolve technical challenges
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • Approximately 5-7 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in OEM equipment, machine building, process skids, industrial equipment, automation-adjacent manufacturing, or similar environments.
  • Strong experience designing mechanical equipment using SolidWorks
  • Experience creating and modifying assemblies, layouts, drawings, and manufacturing documentation
  • Experience developing BOMs and supporting projects through design, fabrication, assembly, testing, or implementation
  • Hands-on mechanical mindset with the ability to work directly with manufacturing, technicians, and physical equipment
  • Some familiarity with electrical systems, controls hardware, instrumentation, sensors, motors, valves, or wiring
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and electrical/control schematics
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in engineering documentation
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable learning new engineering software, systems, and processes
  • Genuine interest in developing PLC programming and broader mechatronics skills
  • Comfortable working onsite and directly with equipment
  • Ability and willingness to work 100% onsite in Nashua, NH
Preferred Qualifications
  • PLC/HMI experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, AutomationDirect, or similar platforms
  • Experience with VFDs, analog instrumentation, digital I/O, communications, and industrial networking
  • Experience with automated machinery, process skids, water treatment, filtration, biotech/pharmaceutical equipment, laboratory equipment, or similar systems
  • Experience taking equipment from concept through design, fabrication, programming, testing, and commissioning
  • Experience working for an OEM, machine builder, or systems integrator
  • Experience developing standardized or configurable equipment platforms
  • Experience with high-purity water or solvent purification systems
  • Experience with process improvement and equipment optimizationExperience with SolidWorks Vault/PDM or similar engineering systems
  • Experience with BOM/ERP systems
  • Strong customer-facing and technical communication skills
  • Willingness to travel locally approximately 2-3 times per year for customer installation and commissioning (local travel)
