Job description

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Mechanisms Engineer to support the development, integration, and validation of advanced aerospace systems. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a fast-paced production and test environment, working directly with complex mechanical hardware that enables critical spacecraft and satellite functionality. The role combines hands-on engineering, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure reliable performance throughout manufacturing, qualification, launch, and mission operations.

Responsibilities of the Mechanisms Engineer:
  • Lead integration and verification of spacecraft deployment and actuation mechanisms.
  • Execute hardware builds and support manufacturing, test, and flight operations.
  • Develop integration procedures, test plans, and engineering documentation.
  • Perform mechanical analyses and evaluate interfaces, clearances, and system performance.
  • Conduct environmental and functional testing to qualify flight hardware.
  • Analyze test results, resolve anomalies, and drive corrective actions.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the hardware lifecycle.
Qualifications of the Mechanisms Engineer:
  • 4+ years of experience working with mechanical systems involving moving components, precision assemblies, actuators, deployment devices, or aerospace hardware.
  • Experience supporting spacecraft, satellite, launch vehicle, aviation, defense, robotics, or other high-reliability mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with environmental testing standards and aerospace quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of electromechanical actuators, gear trains, deployment systems, latching mechanisms, and motion-control assemblies.
  • Experience developing test fixtures, automation tools, or custom integration equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting hardware through integration, testing, troubleshooting, and qualification activities.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, kinematics, tolerance analysis, load transfer, bearing systems, and actuation mechanisms.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, manufacturing documentation, and test requirements.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar design tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Compensation for the Mechanisms Engineer:
  • Compensation: ~$85,000–$140,000 (**based on experience**) + RSUs
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, RSUs, PTO (unlimited), Sick Leave as required by law, etc
  • Additional Benefits: Relocation assistance/ bonus ($10K) + temporary housing assistance ($2500 X2 months), monthly stipend ($1050/ monthly)
