Under the direction of the Fleet Manager, the Mechanic Helper assists with vehicle maintenance, facility upkeep, equipment transport, parts pickup, and mail distribution. Responsibilities include maintaining shop cleanliness, documenting repairs, and following safety procedures to support efficient operations. This position is covered as defined by The Board of Commissioners of the County of Allen Employee Handbook.

The Mechanic Helper is expected to efficiently support Mechanics in the maintenance and repair of county vehicles, ensuring all tasks are completed accurately and in a timely manner. This role requires adherence to safety protocols while handling equipment, performing facility maintenance, and assisting with service calls. The Mechanic Helper must maintain accurate records of repairs, transport equipment as needed, and ensure a clean and organized work environment. Attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and effective communication with team members are essential for success in this role.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The Mechanic Helper assists Mechanics with vehicle and equipment maintenance while also supporting facility upkeep. Duties include transporting equipment, picking up parts, distributing mail, documenting repairs, and maintaining a clean work environment. This role requires adherence to safety procedures, accurate record-keeping, and collaboration with team members to ensure efficient operations. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for coordinating daily tasks.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
The Mechanic Helper interacts regularly with Mechanics, the Fleet Manager, and other county employees to support vehicle maintenance and repairs.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The Mechanic Helper works in a shop environment with frequent standing, lifting, bending, and exposure to hazardous equipment, fumes, and noise. The role requires lifting up to 60 pounds, reaching overhead, kneeling, and occasional ladder climbing. Tasks involve handling tools, monitoring equipment, and maintaining attention to detail. Exposure to extreme temperatures and chemicals is possible, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
SUPERVISION:
This position does not supervise other employees.

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
This position reports to the Fleet Manager.
HOURS:
7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, standard 40-hour workweek, with additional hours as needed.
