Mechanic Helper – Start Your Career in Heavy Equipment Maintenance!
Location: Highway North Barn – 2234 Carroll Road, Fort Wayne, IN
Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM (40 hours/week + overtime as needed)
ABOUT THE JOB
Are you ready to kickstart your career working on heavy machinery and diesel equipment? Our Mechanic Helper position is a hands-on opportunity to learn the ins and outs of maintaining and repairing the equipment that keeps our roads running—dump trucks, loaders, excavators, and more.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Assist Mechanics with repairs and maintenance on heavy-duty diesel equipment.
Help with service calls for disabled machinery in the field.
Transport equipment and parts to job sites.
Pick up parts and deliver mail between Highway Department locations.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
Keep records of repairs and service work.
Work with hydraulics, air brakes, ABS systems, and wiring repairs.
WHAT YOU NEED
Education: High school diploma or GED
Experience: At least one year in diesel engine repair, maintenance, or a related field
Basic Tools: Bring your own set—upgrade with our $1,200 yearly allowance
Skills: Knowledge of hydraulics, air brakes, electrical systems, and safety procedures
Bonus Points: Experience operating forklifts, Bobcats, welding, or soldering
