Job summary

SITE Staffing Inc. seeks an experienced Mechanical Test Engineer to join the Materials Testing team.

In a laboratory environment, you’ll perform mechanical testing of metals—including tensile, impact, hardness, and load testing—while applying metallurgical knowledge to manufacturing, fabrication, or foundry contexts. You will provide customer and sales support, interpret test results, develop testing protocols and fixturing, and compile technical reports for clients.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is desired; related disciplines may be considered with relevant experience.
• Five years or more experience in an environment with exposure to mechanical testing.
• Experience with test method development and experimental planning.
• Familiarity with strain gauging, data acquisition, and testing instrumentation.
• Knowledge of material properties and standards (ASTM, ISO, NACE, PED, ASME IX, AWS, CWB, Military specs).
• NDE knowledge is a plus; certifications not required.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer and sales support related to mechanical testing, including pre-sale qualification, quoting, and interpretation of test results.
• Perform tensile, impact, hardness, and load testing on customer samples per applicable standards.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and test results for materials and customer applications.
• Coordinate non-destructive testing of castings, assemblies, or components as needed.
• Develop testing protocols and fixturing to meet unique load testing requirements.
• Organize and present test data and procedures in technical reports for customers.

Our client has an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Test Engineer to join their Materials Testing team. This position offers a unique chance for you to apply, develop, and challenge your skills and abilities on a daily basis. You will work in a testing laboratory environment in areas related to the mechanical testing of a wide variety of metals including tensile testing, impact testing, hardness testing and load testing. Experience in metallurgy as it relates to the manufacturing, fabricating, or foundry industries is desired. In this role you will be responsible for the following primary activities:

Primary activities

• Provide customer and sales support related to mechanical testing of materials including pre-sale qualification, quoting, and interpretation of test results.
• Perform tensile, impact, hardness and load testing of customer supplied samples according to applicable standards or specifications.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, and mechanical testing results as they relate to the material being tested and the customer’s application.
• Request and collaborate on non-destructive testing of castings, assemblies, or customer components.
• Review customer load testing requirements and develop a testing protocol including design and fabrication of fixturing to meet unique customer required load testing.
• Organize, analyze, and present test procedural information and test results from testing into a technical report to be presented to the customer.

Qualifications and Skills

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is desired however a degree in Material Science, or a similar materials or engineering discipline will also be considered along with job experience related to mechanical testing.

• Knowledge of physical properties of materials and material standards including ASTM, ISO, NACE, PED, ASME IX, AWS, CWB, and Military specification
• Knowledge of NDE methods, techniques, and acceptance criteria.
• NDT certifications are not required but are a plus.
• Experience with metallographic preparation, and hardness testing techniques, both macro and microhardness.
• Must have an attention to detail and exceptional problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Must have strong interpersonal skills supporting collaboration and teamwork with a diverse group of engineering, operations, and materials management.
• Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications abilities.
• Experience leading teams is preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as an aptitude for learning and working with a variety of application software.
