Qualifications

  • Proficiency with servo-hydraulic systems, sensors, and electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to read drawings, procedures, and test specs.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory test equipment for mechanical and materials testing.
  • Execute ASTM material characterization tests: tensile, fatigue, creep, crack growth, wear, TMF.
  • Configure, assemble, and modify electro‑mechanical test systems.
  • Monitor test performance and ensure procedures compliance.
  • Document test parameters, conditions, and results accurately.
  • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports for engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and test equipment issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Support testing under elevated temperature, cryogenic, vacuum, inert gas, and corrosive environments.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.

Job description

Seeking a highly motivated Experimental Test Technician to support hands‑on mechanical testing of materials used in advanced aerospace engine applications. The role is responsible for the setup, execution, analysis, and documentation of experimental and standardized material characterization tests. The technician will work closely with engineers and research personnel to ensure accurate test results and reliable operation of laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory test equipment used for mechanical and materials testing.
  • Execute experimental and ASTM material characterization tests, including:
  • Tensile testing
  • Fatigue testing
  • Creep testing
  • Crack growth testing
  • Wear testing
  • Thermo-Mechanical Fatigue (TMF) testing
  • Configure, assemble, and modify electro‑mechanical test systems.
  • Monitor test performance and ensure compliance with established procedures.
  • Accurately document test parameters, conditions, and results.
  • Analyze test data and prepare technical reports for engineering teams.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and test equipment issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and calibration activities on laboratory equipment.
  • Support testing under various environmental conditions, including elevated temperature, cryogenic, vacuum, inert gas, and corrosive environments.
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • 4-7 years of experience in mechanical testing, laboratory operations, aerospace manufacturing, materials testing, or a related technical field.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands‑on troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with:
  • Servo‑hydraulic test systems
  • Instrumentation and sensors
  • Electro‑mechanical equipment
  • Ability to read technical drawings, procedures, and test specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical reporting tools.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or research laboratory environments.
  • Knowledge of ASTM testing standards.
  • Familiarity with composite materials, superalloys, and high-temperature materials.
  • Experience with fatigue, tensile, creep, or fracture mechanics testing.
  • Knowledge of closed‑loop control systems and laboratory automation.
  • CAD or technical drafting experience is an asset.
